After a long and painful struggle I was finally able to acquire a ravishing platinum SP. I had to sever the spinal cord of a small child to get it into my hands but boy was it was worth it.. As soon as I got home I went into my room, popped Mario Advance 3 in and turned off the lights.
Beauuuuty. I watched the opening sequence, marveled at the panorama of Yoshi's island and then turned it off. I'm going to save it for bedtime. "Lights out" wouldn't have meant shit to me if I had one of these babies when I was little.
I'm now investigating the flash card capabilities of the SP so kindly pointed out to me several days ago by his royal snuggliness Ceri JC.

There should be another shipment coming in at the end of this month or early next. Nintendo's notorious for under-supplying retailers upon initial release of their new products..
None of that matters to me now though. This thing is so adorable.. I'm going to put it by my bed and watch it charge while I sleep.

Who do you think you're talking to sweet heart? I haven't tried the Tingle feature in Zelda yet, though I did unlock the original NES Metroid. Exactly the same - Everything's there, even the slowdown. The opening music has got to be my absolute-all-time-without-a-doubt-favorite Nintendo theme.

Yeah... fucking TELL ME ABOUT IT. I could have played Zelda by now, my cousin had it over the other day but I refused, I want to experience it alone in the evening, just me and my golden disc and some cookies.
The fact that the GBA wasn't backlighted to begin with is atrocious.

Esp. when you consider it was finsihed over a year before it was released... if proper customer testing had been carried out at trade shows, they could of released the SP as the original GBA. I Have an original GBA and will probably get an SP (along with a new flash cart for it- mine doesn't fit >:( ) at some point. Not just for the backlit, but the fact it is small enough to be properly portable- you really can just put it in your pocket without moticing it, like a slimline mobile phone. The GBA (once you consider the carry case neccesary to prevent scratching the screen) is just a tad too big to carry around with me on a daily basis.

Holy batsmoke! You're playing Yoshi's Island for the very first time now? :-D I just wish i could be where you are right now... unaware of what wonders still lie ahead of you! That game rocks. I never really considered it a "mario adventure", since the gameplay is pretty different... but it's such a cool experience :-) You're gonna love it! Well, i bet you already are loving it :-p
I just wish nintendo would create a completely new 2d mario adventure for the gba.
JAroen, i sort of managed to reserve a copy of the Wind Waker after all! I didn't exactly pre-order it, but the guy at the toystore just promised he would keep one for me if they would be selling really fast :-) You should look into it (just search for a toystore with someone semi-intelligent in the videogames-section, and ask them to hold one copy for you). Or you'll end up like ophecks :-o

"Not just for the backlit" *ahem* frontlit actually. Playing in the dark is a dream come true.. The only negative is that the light gives the screen a purplish tint. Really nothing though, hardly noticeable.
More irritating is the wrist cramps the L and R buttons provoke. I have to stop playing every 15 minutes or so to flap my hands and get the blood flowing properly again. Maybe I'm just "too big".. It's not the only time that's been a problem.

likes? That's an understatement! ;-) I love the graphics! Yesterday i plugged in my N64 again for a few hours, and played a little Paper Mario... i tell ya, the graphics haven't aged at all! I actually think it looks better than most GC-games.
Yoshi's Island, Paper Mario, The Wind Waker... these are (graphically) probably my favourite games ever. I so love the imaginative approach :-)
I also still have to find the Kirby platform game released on N64 sometime... that looked incredibly fun and beautiful aswell! But i've never been able to find it anywhere :-/

Welcome to my world :-( I have the same problem. And ofcourse now N64-games are pretty much unfindable altogether. I guess ebay is our only option :-o

"I dont wanna dish out the cash if its not that great. "
I think the main critism in all the reviews i read was that it's far too easy. You'll complete the game in a matter of hours. I think someone even wrote he made it to the final boss the first time he played it without losing a life :-p
But if it's anything like the other kirby-games, it'll still be brilliant! Kirby-games have a history of being very easy i think. Kirby's Dreamland2 on gameboy had the nicest solution... it was still ludricously easy... but they simply built so many levels it still takes a good while to complete the game :-)
Kirby's problem is he's just too good. He can walk, jump, swallow all enemies from a distance and also fly! All without power-ups, these are his standard-abalities. But ofcourse these are also the abilities that make his game so much fun to play :-)

I already gave those bastards a 2nd payment for their color upgrade, which they released right before they mentioned there'd be an "advanced" one. bastards.

Sorry.....someone really must tell me how to make active links....
"Thrustmaster's Starter Pack, incorporating five useful accessories, is an essential complement to the Game Boy Advance SP. The attractive silver protector bag helps to prevent damage to the console, with enough storage space for game cartridges and headphones. Its belt clip allows gamers to safely and conveniently transport their system while providing easy access to the GBA SP inside the bag. Two cartridge cases are also included. The link cable allows for head-to-head gaming with a friend, and supports up to four players with additional link cables (not included) plugged into its hub. Last but not least, the pack includes a pair of high-quality headphones and the required headphone cable adapter. Gamers can play quietly in any environment while enjoying the very best sound possible. "

I've not heard that they're not... best bet would be to go to a store (even "reputable" ones like virgin or game should let you) and ask to try one of your own games on it (copy a "homebrew game" onto the flash cart).
It should work, as the flash carts are exactly the same as real ones apart from subtle differences in the way they save games (different type of memory on some models).

... Peh. 'Our friends abroad' my ass. I'll remember this Ceri JC.
I took Yoshi's Island and Warioland 4 back to the store today.. There was nothing wrong with the games themselves, I just felt a little underwhelmed. I need something more complex with a storyline that instills a sense of purpose and forges an attachment between you and your character. Not that I can't relate to Wario; I too get enjoyment out of life by spreading misery and hording plundered treasure in my basement..but.. I don't know. It's just not the same anymore. I've gone through a whole host of GBA titles* and the only three I'm still holding on to are Metroid Fusion, Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Tactics Ogre(my favorite). I want something more engaging.
Has anyone heard anything about the new Lufia game? What about Breath of Fire? I've still yet to play Advance Wars though I've heard it's a lot of fun.. Any feedback and\or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
*Doom, Golden Sun, Zelda: Oracle of Seasons\Ages, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Mario Advance 2, Broken Sword, and a few more I'm probably forgeting..
