Final Fantasy Tactics is almost here for the Advance and it
looks hot as shit -- heads up dude!

( Thorough review of AW:

9.1! I have that ROM, I just haven't gotten around to
playing it. But that nice score has me moist... I'll give
her a go.

What improvements are they making on Tactics? I seriously
loved that game. Didn't read a word of the story though, but
the fighting and class thingy is sublime. Subfuckingblime.

i've been playing metroid fusion the past few days...

side-scroller, personally.

anyone who is into the gba, DEFINITELY pick this one up!!!!

Welcome to 4 months ago! :-p

You're right, that's an awesome game... in my old age, I
usually beat a game once and never find the time again for
it, but I beat that twice and was never bored for a second.

I like how you can't really get ''lost'' like in Super
Metroid. My sense of direction is similar to that of a
chicken with its head cut off and shoved up its butt.

I'm not exactly sure as I never played the original. I
heard the English translation redefined the word
'ass-tacular' and opted to stay away.
You should read one of the previews at Gamespot for a quick
compare and contrast.

Man-o-War, this message board has really been pissing me off
lately. Reload does not equal Reply.
Although the map directions in Metroid Fusion are
conveniant, I kind of miss aimlessly wandering around
waiting to fall through a trapdoor or accidently bombing a
passageway to Chozo-holding-weapon-upgrade land. I don't
like how personal Samus gets either.. "He used to call me
lady" -- What the hell is that? The fact that she never
exposed any vulnerability was what I was able to relate to..

Pfft, you'd like to THINK you have an inpenetrable carapace
shell, but you've got a gooey caramel center, I bet.

I kind of miss the ''needle in a haystack'' desperation too,
at times... but I have some bad experiences with that kind
of thing.

Yeah.. Me too. After a few seconds of reflection and
contemplation I've decided that the navigational aid is a
welcome addition afterall. I just wish the game took place
on a planet instead of a space station..
That'd be totally coolio if Nintendo gave Metroid the
Castlevania treatment and squeezed out a couple more GBA
titles.. Minus the latter series' mediocrity of course.
As for my insides, I've got something even better than
caramel: Jewish blood - more precious and sought after
than even the rarest sapphires and metals. Of course, being
one yourself you probably already knew that.

If you link up a GBA with a completed copy of Metroid Fusion
into a GC with Metroid Prime, you can play the original Nes
game on the GC! Similairly, if you've completed prime you
get a new suit type in Fusion...

Re: GC Advance Wars, it'd be good, but having other players
able to see your turn (IE characters hiding in trees/fog of
war) would ruin it a bit. Perhaps people use linked up GBAs
to take their turns, but the general map and 3d renderings
of battles could be shown on the TV?

I was playing Wind Waker again last night. Excellent game...
I can't wait for Super Monkey Ball to arrive.

Again with the Eurosnob treatment.
I'm on mission 11 or 12 in Advance Wars. Out of the 3 COs I
have access to right now, Andy is definately my favorite -
His 'Hyper Repair' special is unparalleled.
Anyway, have fun playing Monkey Ball and not Wind Waker
crotch weed.

At the moment I only have those two GC games, but Jedi Chris
kindly lent me Metroid, Simpson's crazy taxi-alike game and
starfox. I have Enter the Matrix pre-ordered.

Monkey Ball is great multiplayer, but if you're a fan of
marble madness you should like it single player too.

Andy is my fav. CO too. Nell is pretty good as well, but
she's the last one you get if I recall correctly.

Yes, it's really good- very close playabiltity wise to GC
version. Not a great deal in it graphically either! It runs
well on an emulator, so it's worth a download from kazaa :)

From the Metroid database at
http://www.classicgaming.com/mdb/ :

"The rumors were true: Metroid Zero Mission is an all-new 2D
game for the Game Boy Advance! Early screenshots revealed by
Nintendo show a very classic-style Metroid adventure, devoid
of the twists found in Fusion and looking more like Super.
Also, both the screenshots and the first piece of official
Nintendo art for the game show Samus wearing her original
Power Suit -- not the version with the beefed-up Varia
shoulders featured in Metroid II and beyond -- which, along
with the title of 'Zero Mission' and the very
original-Metroid-looking blue and gold logo on the game's
title screen, indicates that this game may very well be a
prequel to Metroid 1! Old-schoolers rejoice -- this one
looks fun!!"

Advance Wars just keeps getting better and better. I'm on
the second battle with Sturm and have yet to feel the wrath
of his CO ability.. Hopefully I'll be able to establish a
modicum of military strength before he unleashes it on me.
I haven't even tried multiplayer mode yet though I bet it's
a buttload of fun. What is your normal method of play Ceri?
Do you link your GBAs up or do you pass a single unit
around?

hey cabbog,
have you heard that Metroid: Zero mission is actually a
remake of the original metroid ?. It's a bit of a
dissapointment actually, I was expecting a more developed
game engine from fusion.... ( u never know though I guess)

* does a reverse pelvic thrust

btw, have you seen the metroid prime 2 teaser trailer? it
looks pretty shiny allthough it's all 3rd person footage..

The graphical style is supposedly more 'Super' than 'Fusion'
which is a good thing in my book. I didn't particularly
like all the exotic colors and gameplay alterations in
Metroid Fusion -- I've always been more of a damp
subterranean thing myself. The more drippy caverns the
better! As for the game engine, I'm certain it will be just
as dynamic, if not more so, than the one used in Fusion...
And if the game is indeed a remake it's sure to vary
radically from the original. I doubt they're planning on
directly porting the 1985 NES game(which I shamefully still
haven't completed), especially after it's been made freely
available as an extra on Metroid Prime.

I haven't seen the trailor of which you speak.. Care to
post a few stills? Prime was excellent but my personal
favorite of the series is still Metroid II: Return of Samus.

Kewl! Me too :P(_i_)
I'm on the final mission now and it's hard as hell. Every
time I finally put together a formidable offense Sturm's
Meteor Strike is there to lick my ass. I've got Grit on the
west side, Andy in the middle and Drake on the west. Any
combat strategy from a venerable AW veteran like yourself
would be greatly appreciated(though I may have actually
taken a different route than you as Nell hasn't been made
available to me).

Mmmmmm, the atmosphere on Super Metroid was so much gooier
and murkier and slimier and scarier and eerier and alien-er
and all those good adjectives. A return to that style will
be welcomed by me. Fusion was pretty fruity looking and
bright in places, like you were battling in a Jolly Rancher
commerical.

And don't feel shame in never beating the first Metroid... I
haven't either. Games were not for the weak at heart back
then... they're easy now cuz they WANT you to get to the
flashy parts, but back then, with no flash, all that's left
is pure CHALLENGE. Baby.

I've gotta agree with you guys with the second installment
(snes version) as the most potent of the series. I was well
pissed to be told that fusion would have everything and more
than the second, only then to fall short in the scanner
department. I don't know why they didn't include this in
fusion, maybe it would have made it even easier still?

and speaking of easy, what's going on with these bosses in
wind waker? after finishing metroid prime the bosses in wind
waker seem far too easy, theres no stressing out during
battles wondering if I'll make it (like in metroid prime),
oh well, lucky that everything else in the game is sheer
perfection :)

THIRD installment. The mind-blowing(at the time) sequel
came out for the Gameboy in the early nineties - several
years before Super Metroid.

The boss battles in Wind Waker were pretty easy.. But
they're so incredibly awesome!! I've never had so much fun
pulling down loose plates of rock on to the head of a giant
one-eyed lava crustacean thing my entire life!
Cheers for the Zero pics by the way. Still not enough to
get a feel for the style though.

An old girlfriend bought me Aria of Sorrow for my birthday -
She actually went to Electronics Boutique, told them her
situation and asked for a recommendation. That deserves
some major cunnalingus. I played it for about 5 minutes and
it looks pretty decent.. The animation is much better than
the other two. One thing I don't understand is why Konami
takes the time to make such beautiful and sophisticated
looking characters only to slaughter them with such lines as
"Huhh? Wha-What the heck is going on here?".
What does the big JW think of the newest Castlevania? You
may have posted your impression in this thread already but
I'm too tired and lazy to scroll up and check.

yooohoooo!
It's late-night videogame chat time again!
I've decided that Aria of Sorrow is definately the Beyonce
Knowles of the trio - Gorgeous graphics, classic soundtrack
and a stellar combat system gets it an 'A' in my gaming
grade book. The crown jewels are right here.
I took my gift card to EB today to hunt down F-Zero or Mario
Kart; unfortunately the latter was the only one available
and it was an extra $10 I didn't have. I opted instead for
a special edition of Max Payne on the Xbox which the Klingon
cashier rang up in bullet time... Awesome. The game
transition is flawless and the controls work like a charm.
It's a real shame there's no console modding
community(nothing encouraged anyway). Has anyone seen or
read anything on 'The Fall of Max Payne'? Another
drawer-soiler in the making I'm sure.
