perhaps you should try on biophone records-they release
beautiful ambient
and they're pretty close to you i'd say

oh, biosphere... lots of people say good things about him,
but i haven't heard the music yet myself.
not to have a website isn't really common today...
interesting. thanks again.

i think they only just begun-probably thats why no website

and if you like ambient, you definitely have to check
biosphere-that double cd: substrata/man with a movie camera
is brilliant
there are also some biosphere's mp3 free to download on that
link from my previous post
and you're welcome

have you heard a group called Set Fire To Flames'? i'm
listening to it as we speak and i'm overwhelmed by it's
beauty... it happens everytime i put it on... or Stars Of
The Lid (the best beautiful pure ambient i have discovered
so far)... somehow different music but evokes same kind of
emotions in me.
i really recommend stars of the lid's doublecd 'the tired
sounds of..." - it's just dark beauty.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2002-12-29 17:45 [#00494650]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

never heard of those two-i'll chek them out
thanks
if you like dark ambient, i would recomend that phonophani
album on biophone records

offline fat kaimo from Finland on 2002-12-29 17:57 [#00494651]
Points: 2003 Status: Lurker

set fire to flames isn't exactly ambient, but at times you
could say that too. it's 13 piece collective that features 5
godspeed you black emperor!-members and the music is at
least a bit related to it - without the high peaks. or at
least the peaks are different kind. i can't recommend this
music for everyone but it's one of my favourites. set fire
to flames is on alien8 recordings

stars of the lid is on kranky records and they are super
good... i don't know what to call them. it's just very lush
soundscape that lasts for two hours. i love it. and can
recommend it to you with my whole heart.

hah i'm too tired and i'm typing too much... i really should
go to bed now. have a good night.

thanks for the links

releases

yes, the tired sounds of stars of the lid is very nice..
very moody and atmospheric..

you would definitely like biosphere's substrata/man with a
movie camera..
'shenzhou' is pretty good too

i'd also recommend a silver mt. zion.. its another side
project of gybe similar to set fire to flames... get their
first album
'he has left us alone, but shafts of light sometimes grace
the corner of our rooms'

i also just got takagi masakatsu's 'pia'
very minimalistic.. you should check that out too

also tim hecker's 'haunt me, do it again, haunt me' (or
something like that..)
also very nice and moody/minimalistic

thanks for suggestions-takagi masakatsu really sounds nice
so does review of tim hecker's album

hey, kaimo
i received your album today
that is some really nice music, i listend to it once so far
and enjoyed it-it really goes along with snow hehe
anyway you should get in touch with some label imo
that biophon release phonophani sounds a lot like you stuff,
so you could try there perhaps
hehe, perhaps you already have a deal :)
anyway nice stuff and im looking forward to new music

hey tolstoyed!
i'm sorry you had to wait so long...

and i am really happy that you seem to like it. i probably
will send some demos out but i'm not expecting anything to
happen... but thankyou for the compliments again.

goes along with snow...

haha i agree but it's so strange that most of the music was
actually made during the summer! and it was one of the
sunniest and hottest summers i can remember...

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2003-01-07 15:18 [#00505554]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

hehe, perhaps you were nostalgic about the winter
no seriously, i like that susumu yokotas "sakura" a lot, and
i kind of find that compatible with snow as well, and that
album was made in spring when he got inspired with blooming
cherry tree

anyway i hope that demos you're sending are going to work

Points: 2003 Status: Lurker | Followup to tolstoyed: #00505554

hmm interesting. i think i'll have to check out some susumu
yokota too...

oh and i've listened some biosphere... some from 'substrata'
and some from 'the man with the movie camera', which sounds
very much better to me right now... i'll have to hear some
more too.

hahaa my english is really sad tonight...

and your support really means much to me tolstoyed.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2003-01-07 15:42 [#00505577]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

yeah, i prefer man with a movie camera to substrata as well
perhaps you chould try his patashnik and cirque albums
aswell if you're into ambiental music-i guess you are hehe

and about yokota-he is definitely my favourite musician, and
that sakura is my favourite album
if you're going to check him out, i would recommend a track
"kodomotachi", which is also my favourite track
haha, im really advertising yokota too much on this mb :)

Points: 2003 Status: Lurker | Followup to tolstoyed: #00505577

yeah you talk a lot about yokota, but don't stop please...

biosphere seems to you use a lot of speech samples from
'twin peaks'... the more i listen to these songs, the more i
like them. or maybe it's because i'm more tired each time
hah.

thanks for the recommendations, i'll check 'sakura' out.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2003-01-07 15:55 [#00505590]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

haha, great so yokota ...

about biosphere: i read in an interview that he actually
pick the speech sample he likes and than build his music
around it-surely a funny way of doing music, but he is great
at it, and i just love all that environmental samples on
substrata and man with a movie camera
i hope to see his new release out soon
hehe, big fan of him aswell

i actually did a song this way just some days ago.
030103...

i found a tape which my mother had taped some 12-14 years
ago when me and my brother were small kids. the tape is just
us laughing and giggling and talking all kinds of weird
things like how we should plant a popcorn tree... so i
sampled it and made twelve-minute soundscape around it... i
think my next hei album will be a lot better than the one
you have. if i ever get that far...

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2003-01-07 17:04 [#00505661]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

huh, cool, you're already thinking of making a new one!?
i just experienced your current one in its best-driving
through the woods, loads of snow, snowy road and deep dark
night
i love those deep, bassy sounds on track six (it actually
reminded me of yokota a bit)
anyway, you're saying you actually didnt listen to yokota or
biosphere before, so what were your influences?

and this way you did this samples-its more original this
way, jenssen just take them out of an movie :)

i see track six is getting popular :)
