Apologies. Ihaven't even read the majority of the thread,

have excellent taste!

wu-tang forever, i bought it in 1997. i only got into
hip-hop in 1995 or 1996.

Ni**a Please benefited from the Neptunes production fo sho.
I love it when he says "I wanna give a shout out to the
Eskimos. I wanna give a shout out to the army, navy the
marines".

That's why then...you find with a lot of people the first
album they got into they seem to like the best because it
was what got them interested in the group in the first
place.

I am guilty of this with Nas, as much as people say Illmatic
is his best album I preferred It was Written.

i love it when he says "you white muthafuckas ain't gonna
EVER take over! you shut the fuck up and you SHUT THE FUCK
UP!"

i feel guilty listening to the album tho. as ?uestlove put
it, in the pantheon of wu-tang albums, this is "the crack
album". it's a little like laughing at the homeless.

Some of ODB's rants on Brooklyn Zoo are priceless, like when
he bursts into 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' for no apparent
reason.....Classic!

putting production aside, won't you at least admit wu-tang
forever had deeper lyrics than the debut? there's really a
lot covered on the album whereas 36 chambers is like a party
album.

theres too much dope hip hop.

All DJ PRemier stuff is NICE!!!

Gang Starr - Moment Of Truth

Sunz Of Man - The LAst Shall Be First

Non Phixion - The Future Is Now

etc etc

He was fucked up when he made that album (and some of it was
actually demos that Rza reconstructed into tracks because
ODB was locked down)...who can forget the news storys about
ODB standing in front of the female judge and saying to her
"you want to fuck me don't you"...then when he escaped from
prison he was recaptured in a McDonalds signing autographs
for people.

Moment of Truth that was the one with Robin hood theory on?
I love that album like my first born.

Maybe for the reasons that ecnadniarb stated, but in my
opinion 36 Chambers is FAR superior to Forever, it just
sounds more undiluted and raw, which is what you want from
this style of hip-hop.

are you talking about nigga please? that album was recorded
before that though. i know his latest "album" is all demos
that outside producers (not even rza) pieced together. i
didn't buy it, i don't think odb would approve of people
buying it but what choice does he have?

isaac: i like raw hip-hop but wu-tang are a varied bunch, i
can deal with different styles on albums.

No nigga please was 90% finished when he was arrested. That
is why the video for Baby I Got Your Money with Kelis is
actually old Blaxploitation footage with his head attached
from videos he did for the first album.

titsworth - me too but if I'm really in the mood for some,
for want of a better phrase, 'traditional Wu-Tang' it's 36
Chambers everytime

Moment of Truth is class. Sunz of Man? Hmmm. I got rid of
that. There's too much crap Wu Tan spin-off albums.

Bobby Digital by the Rza is pretty lame as well. I'll tell
you what is worth getting if you haven't already, Blackout
by Methodman and Redman, a veritable plethora of tunes....

Depends on whether the group is a spin off or an affiliate
though. Sunz of Man have done some decent stuff. I
remember a track they did with a French rap group called
Iam? It was well good.

if you want raw hip hop... then check out clouddead...
anything by the anticon collective really..

as for fantastic damage.. i really like it.. the production
is amazing of course...though a bit cluttered i thought..and
the rapping takes a bit of getting used to..

..check out dr octagon ...im surprised i havent seen them
mentioned yet..maybe they were...but i missed it..

heres a few more off the top of my head
mr lif ..since you go to school in boston, zeus, you should
probably be able to catch one of his live shows..since he's
from the hub himself
also look for the stuff he did with push button objects and
del tha funky homosapien
aim (mostly instrumental) look for the album 'hinterland'
peanut butter wolf
dj vadim
cujo (amon tobin's more hip hop oriented alias)

i also just got rjd2's album.. ive only heard the first two
tracks so far... but it sounds very nice

Kool Keith has been mentioned, but the Octogon album was
hardly heavy beats it might be better looking at the Dr
Dooom album with Kutmaster Kurt on production duties. Mr
Lif is one of the Co Flow collective who is definitly worth
a listen.

RJD2's album is quality from beginning to end. :)

Just a thought as well, some drum and bass would fit your
original request...check out Bacteria by Ed Rush and
Optical. Dark roller kind of stuff.

with that said, here are my reccomendations...

quasimoto - the unseen
company flow - funcrusher plus
latyrx - latyrx
dj shadow - introducing
anything by cannibal ox
anything by the anticon crew
anything by the 10000 hobos crew
anything by the soulsides crew

...all i can think of right now. too much coffee

...prove me wrong

rdj has stated in many interviews that he started out
spinning and producing hip hop..

not to mention that no hip hop = no turntable manipulation =
no rave seen (as we know it) = no rdj

hip hop gave birth to the breakbeat. and while rdj rarely
uses sampled breaks the music that paved the way for his
music did.

rdj may have still written music if there were no hip hop,
but i doubt any of us would have ever heard it.

I think the only way to settle this is to organise a duel.
Meet at midday at the old saloon. I will bring a band of
Samurai warriors to ensure it is a fair contest.
