Whether its perceived intelligence (whatever that is anyway), or other aspects of a person, i'd say its inevitable that we discrimate in some subjective way - otherwise what's the point in commenting on all those aspects if they are all the same!!! From this it shouldn't be surprising that we have subjective preferences with regards to certain aspects or sum such. Ie. make some more "pathetic" or less .. ? |

There are lots of ELITE Asssholes in the IDM scene, as far as I can tell. Escpecially as aspiring producer, the more expiereniced Musicians are mostly no help at all. elitism is some sad shit. there will always be someone better (smarter, stronger, sexier, richer, more powerful, etc.) than you, so why bother flexing at people who you're more accomplished/gifted than? my girlfriend used to occasionally call me out when i was being a snob about music, i usually disagreed with her (i don't see it how she does) but because that was how i was coming across to her (if no one else) i made a point to be cooler and more humble about the things that i'm good at or knowledgable of. i think a lot of people on this board, and a lot of the artists we listen to (ae, afx) aren't humble enough. |

titsworth: I think its hard for some of the artists we listen to NOT to be elitist, I mean christ, every show they put on hundreds of people scream their names and other things like wanting to have their babies (don't know if that actually happens =p). All I'm saying is that If I were RDJ and walked around all day being followed by reporters and adoring fans, I'd tend to begin thinking "Gee, if these people are this interested in me either I must be doing something right or they are terribly pitiful." My point is, sometimes elitism occurs by no intention of the person it occurs to. I think we all are subconsciously prejudiced in some way/shape/form. Example: If I were to drive into a slum part of town and two guys in beat up and dirty clothes approached me, I would probably immediately wonder if they were going to rob me, and my sole basis for these assumptions would be their manner of dress, when in fact all they may be asking for is some food. Bottomline, there will always be elitism/prejudice but if we recognize it for what it is and not let it control our mindset, then there shouldnt be any more problems like that dreadful nazy party. ;) (holy shit this post was long, sorry for the long-windedness) |

I think people assume i think im better then them, because i like to be alone, and stuff. At the very least this is a nice example of elitism?! I'm not saying I encourage such attitudes - but its one of those things. Hypothetical example: I prefer my musical taste over others - hence "i" feel my taste is superior to others. Feeling that your tastes are worthless and other peoples tastes are far better than your own is reverse elitism (ie acknowledging an elite). If one feels that all taste's are equal - fine. But at the end of the day one still prefers one kind of music (for arguments sake) over another, and so such an egalitarian stance seems somewhat redundant. I don't see why such a stigma is added to elitism?! Everything can be reduced to arbitrariness - and everything essentially is - but at the end of the day, we have to assert this hypocricy - there is no way out! No harm intended - just to and fro'ing. |
