alias) is AWESOME.

check out xltronic.com for Bola and Jello samples.

The 'Voile' album is on Peacefrog Records... SKAM has
released a lot of Bola records...

Cool! I don't suppose Peacefrog records has a US
distribution deal with some large faceless corporation...
:)

Time to start searching the importers.

interseting .
sounds to me a bit like a synergy of SAWII and Tangerine
Dream... but I only listened to 3 or 4 samples

You idiot! How did you manage that? I warped some records
once by storing them by a radiator. Luckily they were crap
rock 7"s. Detroit Grand Escalator Co. is unforgivable
though.

Did you see Ray Mears last night or are you not really a
fan?

hah, I actually bought it like that on a vinyl hunting
session for samples, it was in the 50p. But, I still listen
to the rest and I really like it!

As for Ray Mears, I would have, I noticed it was on, but I
was revising. sociology exam tommorrow, last exam, so
excited

jello
voile
(peacefrog)

Trainspotters (you know who you are) already know that Jello
is another alias for Darrel Fitton, the man behind Bola, and
one of IDM's originators. Perhaps as a function of
experience, Fitton's work often displays a sense of balance
and maturity, rather than sounding like a showcase for the
latest trends. It's difficult to discern whether Fitton
conceived Voile as a coherent project, or if these tracks
simply didn't fit with the Bola sound, but either way the
skill and eclecticism on display points the way towards
expanded possibilities for the IDM genre.

While tracks like "Ephemex" and "Pi-Knipple" stick to the
Bola template of carefully measured linear beats mixed with
lush synth textures, other tracks spin off in a few
different directions. "Vibe-a-Rolla," "Chamchimzee," and
especially the deep and springy "Lungbone" display a
definite funk sensibility, suggesting that even IDM anoraks
can have fun. "Pequill" pairs a romantic solo piano piece
with sparse electronics, creating a beautifully flowing
composition that could easily serve as the basis for a
full-length project. Bola began experimenting with vocals on
the Mauver EP, and he takes things a step or two further
here. "O'verb," with its female vocalist, comes close to
being an actual song with verses and a chorus. Most
interesting is "Shinoque," which features a deep male voice
reciting freestyle poetry over an electronic approximation
of coffee house jazz.

It's refreshing to hear an IDM artist dabbling in a variety
of styles within the same release. Too many albums in this
genre, while certainly accomplished, tend towards
same-sounding tracks that seem like variations on a single
theme. The tracks on Voile are thoughtfully composed, each
with its own mood and identity. Let's hope many more artists
follow this lead and take IDM in some exciting new
directions.

Looks ok to me, maybe it is a stylesheet problem in your
browser. You could always turn underlining back on for
links.

If this bugs you, most browsers allow you to use a custom
style sheet that can restore the underlining to the links on
the forum.

flashy yellow or something, colorblind people will see the
difference between black and yellow, i guarantee it!
