I don't often read fiction, but I loved the gunslinger. I
think I stopped somewhere in the middle of the 2nd book...
with odetta's body splitting into two bodies or something,
near that part. The giant lumbering bear description was
cool... I guess it brought too much city/regular life into
the fantasy desert world of the gunslinger, going through
door portals and what have you. Stephen king must write 24
hours a day, 7 days a week.

They're my favourite series of works. 'The Gunslinger' is
brilliant cause it's so far removed from anything else King
has done and the imagery and the way it sets things up is
brilliant. 'Drawing Of The Three' I think is superbly
plotted and realised, while 'The Waste Lands' has some great
scenes in it, especially the first half of the book. 'Wizard
And Glass' is my favourite though - I think you either love
or hate that book, and it blew my tiny brain through the top
of my head. 'Wolves Of The Calla' next then, which has some
familiar sounding stuff in it ('Low Men').... hope King
holds to his promise and releases the remaining three like,
three months apart. Whoo hoo!

I cant wait!!!!! In interviews he said that the tower series
has always been his favorite work. And that almost all books
he wrote come from it in some way. These books ROCK MY
SOCKS!

That’s funny, I just read the first two books last week. I
started “The Wastelands” last night. I agree, I wasn’t
that into this series until I started book 2. I couldn’t
put down “Drawing of Three.” Very different from his
other stuff. I heard that books 5 and 6 are in the
publishers hands. I hope this is true. So far book 2 has my
vote. I really like Eddie, good character development,
although I’m not too convinced in his love for Odetta.
Maybe it’s just me.

Dark Tower Volumes I - IV
Viking will reissue hardcover editions of the first four
volumes of the Dark Tower Series, Plume will reissue Trade
paperback editions as well.

And. . . Stephen's added material to The Gunslinger. Stephen
explains:

"Here's the scoop on the new material I've added to The
Gunslinger. The idea was to bring The Gunslinger in line
with the material in the new books as well as the material
in the first four. The other thing I wanted to do was to
rewrite to some degree for language because I always felt it
had a different feel than the other books because I was so
young when I wrote it. The material is about an additional
10% (about 35 manuscript pages) with changes on almost every
page."

i only read the original - it's only flaw it that it lacks
continuity a bit, but that's only because it was written
over the span of a couple of years as individual short story
installments - i heard the rewrite doesn't change too much
of the plot, but makes it flow more evenly and ties it in a
bit better with the rest of the series.

but, ah, the dark tower, what a fantastic series indeed.
roland has to be one of my favourite fictional characters
EVER. this is one series i've never been able to put down.

i'm glad to hear the other three books are near completion,
but only one will be released each year. doesn't matter -
someone told me King said that even if he died TOMORROW,
that the rest of the Dark Tower series would still be
published.

I dunno about in other countries but over here's it's
FUCKing expensive, £25 (admittedly with £7 off, first day
too). Glad we went with Amazon as it only cost £12.50.

And there's like, 12 illustrations scattered throughout the
book on glossy paper. OoooOOOo!

a mix of spaghetti western, david lynch, horror, survival
type film (cast away) at points, and mystery.

his best work, by FAR!!!!!!!1

lets see... by Stephen King I've read Salems Lot,
Desperation, It, The Green Mile... a bunch of short
stories... and I've started but never finished a bunch of
other books... I think those are the only ones I've finished
by him...

my favorite book out of those is It... it's about 1100 pages
or so I believe, and I read it in a little over a week... I
was totally into it! So yeah, start with It first is my
feeling... that is if the massive length doesn't intimidate
you!
