Well, let me be a little more nuanced. There are two mainstream political positions in the west. Culturally progressive liberals, and culturally conservative liberals. The main tenet of liberalism is that capital should be interfered with as little as possible. Culturally progressive liberals - "the left" - care about representation, which is fine, but their idea of "as little as possible" doesn't differ that much from culturally conservative liberals. Because neither side wants the basic system to change very much, the discourse rarely concerns systemic change that might upset the apple cart the owning class on both sides eats out of. |
