i am officially tired of ziggurats. i don't even like them anymore.
before 2016 or so, i'd smoke the occasional ziggurat, but it was not a habitual thing. then my life kinda got shit, and they're cheap, and i started smoking regularly.
i've tried to quit a few times; managed once or twice and then got back into it. again, really, because i was broke and, like, fuck it, what else do i have to do. i'm staying in some shit cheap apartment with a bunch of cokeheads, a belgian malanois, and a cat. not only is smoking cigarettes social, but they are currency
things are a bit better now. i have a proper job. i live alone again, thank god. i hate my commute, i hate the train, and more, but these are all starting to feel less relevant in terms of "why am i still smoking zigs?"
but, most directly -- as i openoined, i don't even like them anymore. at work, it's just habit; a good excuse to get away from my desk for a bit. tend to come up with answers w/rt to a bit of work i'm hung up on. so i think i'll need to do something instead; take walks
anyways, yes, i don't even like them any more. i've cut way down without much of a problem, but it's very tough to snuff out the last bit. particularly in the morning, after sleeps, and the withdrawal is doing things to me like headache and bowel dysfunction. the morning ziggurat will be a last holdout, but perhaps it can eventually become a late-morning zig
the weather is getting warmer. according to the terms of my lease, i'm not supposed to smoking anything, and windows are starting to open. been making myself go out for a drive if i want one, to slow myself down, but, tonight, as i got in my car, things came alive around me. right. time to quit
also coronavirus. there's that too
wish me luck xlt

A ziggurat (/ˈzɪɡʊˌræt/ ZIG-uu-rat; Akkadian: ziqqurat, D-stem of zaqāru 'to build on a raised area') is a type of massive structure built in ancient Mesopotamia and Iraq. It has the form of a terraced compound of successively receding stories or levels.

I suggest switching to rollies as a way to get off the zigs. Worked for me. You don't smoke as often because u have to roll it. After a while u don't want the cigs anymore and you're smoking a lot less. From this point, you can try to quit the rollies, which is easier.
that said, I still smoke rollies but a lot less.

i couldn't give my ziggies up even if i wanted to, they're too nice and it's good for making friends in places like this. i've never met a schizophrenic who didn't smoke, it's actually part of the diagnostic criteria to some docs. first zig in the morning, zig with coffee, zig after food... yeah. mind you i've cut down from when i was drinking, used to be a 40 a day dude. ziggy zig zig. going for one now

i haven't had a zig in over two weeks but it's only the last few days that i haven't even been thinking about it
triggering, the most, is watching tv/movies where people smoke, and a general sense of the intensity of that reducing, specifically. like, thank god, it's starting to feel irrelevant again. like it did for most of my life, spare the last five years. cigarettes? oh, whatever.
i could actually get very specific on what it was that flipped the switch. that, for years, i'd occasionally smoke a zig, and never became a zmoker. it was, essentially, a period when i was broke, going through a lot of shit in my life, and, as a consequence of both of these things, forced to live with people who had a social zig culture. combined with continuing to be broke, having to drive for uber, and zigs are a good way to kill the tedium
writing this all, actually triggers the urge. i think i think i'll chomp my last bit of nicorette and then fuck off from this thread forever

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the longer you go without zigs the easier it gets. When I zmoked I was afraid that if I quit I'd have to live with the craving forever, but it goes away. Have faith.

we've also decided to quit.
been a while now... more than a week....not sure...
it's like that feeling you get after someone dies... a void....a deep sadness....followed by irritability at small things, the odd meltdown.
seems silly to feel like that over a little stick of tobacco but there u go

Oh I know, the hollow sense of loss, the looming sense that nothing will ever be right again, and JESUS the MELTDOWNS over NOTHING, it's the most insidious shit.
But it fades and disappears. The one week and the two week points are difficult, then it gets easier and you'll never wanna go back and put yourself through that agony again.

it definitely has gotten more distant -- that feeling of being triggered when someone in a movie lights a cigarette. that feeling that made no sense, since i haven't had one in weeks, three puffs and i'd want to hurl, i would not even enjoy it, but still
that feeling has significantly dropped off in the last few weeks. pretty solidly in the clear, i think.
meanwhile, weed. i bought a ton of oil cartridges from the dispensaries before everything shut down, and was just starting to run out. rationing myself for the last week, i was increasingly crabby and demotivated. eventually, i caved, and called around and got some flower again, and i'm using a pax 3 to vaporize it. i used to flower vaporizer all the time, and this is the first time in years i've moved back to that as my primary method, and i have to say -- very good headspace. only switched because i've no idea where to get oil carts, but i think i like this better

oil can be a little "clean" especially if it's a butane extraction, i used to like a more full-spectrum one from fan-drird alcohol. gives you an almost black oil / tar with more weedy flavour and a fuzzier body high. this is all academic for me though, not smoked oil in years

I would venture to say that weed helps with the tab withdrawal.
Must say i like a good spliff so missing true tobacco in the joints. Even my wife, who really inky smokes when she’s feeling festive, has been toking with me in the evenings because it lessens the cravings.
Alcohol on the other hand, was tough drinking and not having a cigarette. We smoked more weed to compensate.

I do do what the wife says. It’s easier that way. Unless it contravenes some sacred personal law, in that case I stand my ground.
Tbh Idk if it is a good idea. Speaking tobacco here, still dipping in the weed. I have come to realise cigarettes are there to fill the void of existence, the nothing, the deep nothing. I’m craving a cigarette, I wonder what I could do instead, something, anything!! And I am doing some things, all kinds of unnecessary things. Is it either a passive smoke filled life or a busy body smoke free existence. Need to find some middle ground or I might turn into something I don’t want to be.

Right around now is when the Tobacco Demons start whispering into your ear that it's not normal to never smoke again, it's not good, your life has no axis... what if you could just smoke once in a while, like a good boy? You don't want to turn into an annoying smokeless monster, do you?
Look the invisible demons in the eye and pee on their shoes, friend. Those voices are the sound of your addiction dying.
