race is a huge sociatal trauma. you can't subjucate peoples
without that leaving a mark, on both sides. for the
oppressors side, they have to deal with the guilt somehow.
coming to face with it, is a big first step. too big a step
for most. it doesn't help with that, then, that our entire
culture seems one big defense mechanism for looking away and
lulling us into thinking we're okay. the best in fact, so
that's why we just can go on, for instance, with these
colonial wars, with drones, diplomacy and the old fashioned
kind Trump favors. and we say black and brown people are
just mistaking when they're bringing up racism. or they're
told, the ugly liberal way, that they should bring their
message nicely, thus putting the onus on them. us never
changing, them always having to explain themselves they're
people too.

it's cute when people like roger get offended by social
realities because they are unable to perceive the world
beyond the comfort of their self-righteous little navel

how can racist patterns and structures possibly be real if i
think of myself as a fundamentally decent person

your heart's in the right place, you're just an idiot with
an ego

how movies set you up to be all "yeahhh!" when a bullet goes

You still won’t accept that you judged me as being someone
who minimises racism in the Uk, and went on to “teach me a
lesson”. But hey why question yourself? Because you’re
too busy pointing fingers that’s why.

Here I said some sort of apology:
"I guess you are knowlegable on this subject, but I thought
you attacked the article on weak grounds, so that's how I
got to fragility. That was probably the wrong conclusion."

But you didn't read that because you were bezerking over
'lesson', this lesson:
"I guess i can understand not wanting to be read the lesson
by yankees, I'm sure it was published in the NYT for
reasons. "

So I can clarify with above quote that I mean fragile when
it comes to race issues. But it's hard to keep it apart,
because you are fragile, you can't take criticism.
You're not able to think 'Well, that's just his opinion".

offline big from lsg on 2020-01-13 14:45 [#02593167]
Points: 23202 Status: Regular | Show recordbag

Also I'll point out this apology:
"I love you, big; but my gosh you rubbed me the wrong way!"

Which reads: "I'm sorry I was mean, but it's your fault!"

offline big from lsg on 2020-01-13 14:53 [#02593168]
Points: 23202 Status: Regular | Show recordbag

I didn't accuse you of being someone "who minimises racism
in the Uk"

But maybe you are part of the problem, because my
whole point is that racism is a system to which
people knowingly and unknowingly add, but not with the
direct actions people still imagine, with bad words and
stuff.

But that's not what this started about, because it just
started with me disagreeing about the merits of the article.

Well, I'm just glad we've contributions from white people in
Canada, Switzerland, France (of all fucking places) and
wherever Big's from (Lechtenstein?) harping on about white
people all being racist and they don't even know they are
and how worrying it is that they might get defensive about
being accused of something that has fuck all to do with them
personally. Meanwhile in India, Africa, the Middle East,
China, Russia, Israel... No racism. Why can't we be more
like *them*?

No, it means I’ve always like you, but that by trying to
make me out to be “part of the problem” really rubs me
the wrong way.

If I was to point out that I learnt how not to judge people
by their race as a kid in England, that there’s also
always been an inclusive side, doesn’t mean I minimise or
condone the racism, bigotry, hatred, or homophobia to name
some of the issues society and the world is facing. Yeah
it’s far more important to talk about the issues at hand,
but all I was pointing out is that I felt like the article
wasn’t totally hitting England on the head. It’s
ridiculous reasoning to believe that if i point out
there’s some good then I mean there’s no bad. At risk of
repeating myself: racism is an issue in the UK, and
pretending it isn’t there or minimising it is not
something I’ve ever expressed. I’m against firearms but
it doesn’t mean I think everyone in the US loves guns and
shooting people.

You just come across as a well meaning yet pretentious and
judgemental person, which is a shame. You can think what you
want of me, I really don’t care anymore. You don’t know
me and you seem to be the kind guy waiting to pounce at any
time. For the greater good of humanity of course.

I should agree with him that I’m a racist, or a minor
racist, or someone “part of the problem”? This guy
doesn’t know me and forms an opinion that he’s totally
blowing out of proportion and that I find offensive. I know
people like him and I find them arrogant and insufferable.
What I find astonishing is that he really means well.

big, would you define England as a “racist nation”, or
would you define it as a nation with a worrying amount of
racism, and a growing trend towards nationalism?

It just seems silly to point a country out and declare it
racist in an article. It’s all I’m trying to say ffs.
Maybe on the day I wasn’t reading it with the right frame
of mind, I don’t know. But from an initial comment you
started to define me according to your little charts in your
head. It’s not cool, man, to define someone so
aggressively.

“We were going to England for our holidays but had to
cancel as it’s a racist nation you know...”

endowed with the Enlightenment value of Reason, that if
everyone is Racist... maybe that means no one is?? In which
case, why are you picking on England? Jealous?? 😂

I cant argue against that, all I know that the vast majority
of people I know have never come across as racist to me, but
there are deffo pockets of little Englanders who still have
the attitude that the British Empire never ended, but we
certainly don't have a monopoly on racism
