Oh no offense taken at all, it's all good. You mean
understand as in the way they speak English (dunno where
you're from) or understanding as in mutual feelings?

I unfortunately don't know a lot of Belgians but every
single one I've met has an incredible sense of humanity to
them that I really really like.

As ek (ik) Afrikaans praat verstaan hulle (zij) my mooi.
Suiwer Nederlands is (zijn) vir my beetje moeilik.

You should understand that I think :)

I do understand that, though I slightly have to puzzle
things together I get it from context !

Afrikaans.

Last time I was talking with one of my American friends I
blew his mind about how travelling East for 1.5 hrs would
land me inside Germany, and 40 mins South I end up in
Belgium.....

in the UK as well, i think its a shame the UK is an island

of europe as we dont have any borders as such

I don't believe I did know! That's very interesting. I'm
pretty sure had they been successful, PW Botha probably
would have pushed the button.

In some alternate universe Apartheid is still holding on,
threatening the world with Nuclear attack.

between palatial wealth in gated communities and stuff like
Necklacing and shanty towns, i have no idea if that is
accurate its just my mental picture

yeah, I’d say that’s not wholly inaccurate. It’s
varied though. That’s how I see most of Gauteng. There’s
large open farmland too and just nature. Urban areas ofc
things are different. I used to live in the center in town,
in a flat, with a guard. Down on the streets drug dealers
and pimps and prostitutes and homeless people. It sounds
worse than it is. This mawy sound like a terrible
description but it’s actually not bad, you just need to
play it smart. It helps if you befriend people. I was
attacked twice (by some homeless and then by the fing police
- obviously I didnt play it smart) so we moved a little
further out of town in a little shoebox flat. There’s a
guard here but no fence. It’s quiet in general though,
it’s a weird area, we’ve lived here for about a year
now

Generally the country still divided by class and race.
It’s better than it was though, though indeed with Zuma as
president state resources are mismanaged and education needs
to be fixed, what can you do but go on.

a good buzz in the air.
