nice, is that a pic of it? the circuitboard looks homemade,
did you etch your own mother humping circuitboard m8

Yeah thats a pic of it's current state. It's called an
MB808, my mate had two of them laying around, it's a PCB
design from 2009 and sold at the time but pretty much went
under the radar. There's a final version but that one isn't
even sold at all, just the PCB plans etc

Sounds better than a real 808

I did an amplification mod to each instrument so that when
dialed in beyond a certain point they'll kind of self
saturate a bit. Puts the slap into the s of snaredrum.

have you thought about makimg a business out of it, your own
drum machines with a nice wood grain finish

sounds great.

was it expensive to make?

I have thought about it, i have half a drummachine design
and built out that is somewhat the gap between a minipops
and an 808 type of machine, but I dunno who needs
drummachines really these days. It'd be a drumsynth rather..

Don't think ive spent more than 400 bux in total so far,
that's with original opamp chips etc, but not the frontpanel
yet, parts for seperate outputs, etc.

there is always a market for unique machines, or a spin on a
classic design, especially if you put your own personality
into it, im sure each time you made one you could tweak the
design and bring the production costs down

impressive, regardless wish i had the motivation/skill to do
something like this

Yeah you'd create a kind of design standard that is only
present in your own machines. Think I've done that with my
stepsequencers that I've built so far, they're all the same
basic design !

I would want to put something on the market that just
slightly surpasses what we think of as drummachines these
days, they are actually really rather limited voice machines
if you look at it from a technical pov, so you would have to
go more towards something of a 'drum synthesizer' for
example that is focussed on percussion but lets you create
any type of drum instrument from realistic to completely
redonkulous

what would be amazing if if it had some sort of capability
to program your own sounds/samples, like you can do with
supercollider or whatnot i think thats the future some sort
of programming module, but you dont have to know programming
to use it, a nob would change all the variables for you, or
if you were really into it you could plug in a usb port and
mess with the code on a deeper level, stick in one of those
tiny rapsbery pi zeros or whatever somewhere along the path
way

That actually pretty much exists, you can do that with
raspberry pi's or something like Rebel Tech's OWL module
which is exactly how you describe it, a modular synth
module, with a bunch of assignable controls and ins and
outs, a usb port, even is it's own wifi server, uses
puredata, max or c++ if you please to create a DSP program
on the module.. Is hotswap even, really cool !

see what i can rustle up with a rapsbery pi and some
potentiometers or something,

My mate made a drummachine with a raspberry pi, started off
without any real big knowledge of programming at all. It's
pretty powerful ! I might make a little synth with it or
something one day..

where you think "cross that hill to Sussex" and then you do
and you end up in Harwich instead..

alot of south uk is flat i guess, i live on a flat peninsula
that has some hills, the further north you go the more
rumpled the land gets like an unmade bed, i suppose thats
why there is so many dialects cos everyone lives in little
valleys, UK is definitely a weird place,

I would like to weigh in here and say that I wholeheartedly
(and perhaps a little too enthusiastically) agree with wot u
saids in here

I have never met a Belgian person I have not liked. I can
understand them better than the Dutch (no offense). And they
understand me. It’s a hoot. One of my favouretist persons
in this world is from Belgium too. The easiest person to get
along with I ever met and people thought he was difficult.

I’ve seen some of the UK. I worked in Lincolnshire for a
bit, from there I went to the Isle of Wight. Which I
remember very fondly. I tripped my balls off down there.
Never smoked so much hash.

Also went to Wales. Stayed in a strange old cottage with the
invisible crying ghost baby. My mum said she heard it but I
didn’t hear shit, I was frightened

My sister and hubby also used to live in the Highlands
before they got kicked out as the result some of some
clerical error with work and immigration. Don’t ask. Best
place to walk (and live imo). And work even, if you can get
a job and a visa.
