I have shared a house shortly with my father because we both
were in the middle of moving and my old ass father didn't
have a dime or a job to get somewhere without help of
anyone. Of course I wouldn't just invite someone randomly
over at such a time..

showing me your 808 machine, "in real life". Love to have a

Deffo considered Ken Stone's designs, i'm imagining of a
slanted big wooden brick with a massive synth inside it and
a matrix pin-panel (like the ones inside VCS3s)

u need to fix your SD m808, last time i checked a soundcloud
clip it sounded awful.. turn up the noise dial inside the
machine m8

i turned down the tone knob for the last batch of tracks,
there are three sounds generated by the sd. the tone knob
adjusts between two sounds.
left = low tone
middle = both tones, slightly quiet
right = high tone
i was experimenting with the tone knob, i wanted my newer
tracks to sound subtly different to the older tracks

Try listening to this one:
https://britishacid.bandcamp.com/track/custard-cream-comman
do

do you notice the same issue?

i sold a 303 back in 2007 and bought another in 2008 , the
first had sticky buttons and sounded like crap, the second
one which i own today sounds amazing. it has a few blotches
on the back of the case but it was stored in someone's
basement in the USA for 20 years so it was hardly used.

the rule is no two analogue rolands sound the same

but i do agree that your 808 sounds really great m8

It's the noise tail of your snaredrum that makes it sound
like "chicken frying" rather and during the build of mine
that was caused by a wrongly tuned noise coming from the
generator. It modulates a portion of the impact part of the
envelope generator as well for that instrument.. I believe
the sound of yours means there's too little noise coming
through to wake up the parts that make it go "pshhh" instead
of "pflll".

The rest of the circuitry can't really go very wrong, did
you know though that the tone max height was different in
earlier batch of the tr808?

offline umbroman3 from United Kingdom on 2017-05-17 21:11 [#02519861]

No I didn't know. I never was a fan of my own 808's bassdrum
but I don't mind the snare drum really. It's down to taste.
I would really like to find the one with drexciyan hi hats
though. I might sell my 808 on ebay and use the money to buy
a different 808 lol ;-)

Accent's always turned all the way up on mine, do you think
that makes a difference?

offline Fah from Netherlands, The on 2017-05-17 21:15 [#02519863]
Points: 6428 Status: Regular | Followup to umbroman3: #02519862

Totally down to taste, keep buying them until you got the
drexciya one !!

Accent adds a bunch of voltage to the spike of current that
makes up the oscillation of each instrument, so the peak of
the slide is louder, more clipped, fuller

btw let me ask you, how did you get your music on vinyl?
were you pm'd with lots of offers or did you send out demos?

Never sent out demos unless a label asked me for them. All
times I have been approached through FB pm, soundloud pm,
email, in person, etc

offline umbroman3 from United Kingdom on 2017-05-17 21:24 [#02519866]

I got two offers randomly this year but they never turned
into anything, do you ever get that? What do you usually
say? Do you just hand over .wav files or tapes straight away
or do you ask loads of questions or what? Help a noob out
here please with some good advice :-)

And I think I will change my 808, I've been considering it
for a while. Thanks for the advice bro.

No worries man, glad i could help for real.

In what way did they not turn into anything? Bad
communication/(artistic) differences? I have had loads of
them to be honest otherwise I would have much more out on
vinyl haha, but that is just what it is. When you don't feel
'the magic' with a label, don't do it. I always let them
talk about their work and label before moving onto the
bizniz (then you will also know if you're just going to be
filler or these people are genuine fans of your music). I
send them hi q mp3 first of concept album/load of tracks/etc
(the more the better), unmastered wav when settled on which
tracks are going to be sent to mastering/pressing plant.
Also don't be afraid to ask/talk about whether you will earn
anything with it or whatever when there's no talk about it,
some good label owners just flatout go "you get this amount
of total" or "we sadly can't give you any money up front but
will send you x amount of copies to sell for yourself". Ie
just keep the talk chill and honest!

But, it really all depends on what direction you want your
music to go into, i tend to be a bit more strict with who i
release with depending on whether they just want a bulk of
random music from me to choose from or genuinely ask me to
release an EP/album with them.

Great reply m8. I'm gonna be on a cd soon with some online

about £30 each for 100 cds in total. Feels good creating

podcast mixes, so that interview never came out. They're

plug into the Yamaha RX5 based on GliGli's schematics
