Drukqs 10 years later...

Cool article...

I remember hearing about the album on this forum 10 years
ago and getting it on SLSK! The days...

I can remember going hungry so I could afford the audiophile
version over the standard version. Then playing standard and
back to back with my mate who had the standard and neither
of us being able to tell the difference. Happy days.

Did you know that the world "album" has the word "bum" in
it?

Nope. I do now though. Interesting article Narkotic, it is
surprising quite how much "Drukqs-like sounds" have
permeated other, more popular music in the past decade. Oh
and it's always bloody used on Topgear whenever they want to
denote a 'lunatic' car like a TVR (for calm cars like Mercs,
you need BoC).

It's so good I bought it twice. But then I also bought
rounds by fourtet twice. I should really learn to look after
my stuff

It got old too fast for me, this happens a lot with AFX, I
can only listen to the first SAW repeated times without
getting tired of the tracks.

The very best album of any electronic music albums ever
released (Go Plastic second). And "54 Cymru Beats" probably
the best track anyone has ever made !

both the standard edition and the limited edition of Drukqs
are 180gram vinyl. the only difference between them is that
the limited edition is pressed on virgin vinyl

yr wrong it was 220 gram. but what a fucking v-sign it was
to warp. i equate it to talk talk's spirit of eden. which
makes me wonder if aphex is gonna do a laughing stock.

Ten years! TEN!
Where did the time go?

I tried so hard to make my own tunes sound like some of
those tracks... and failed miserably! It was good fun
though.

I love my Granddad's Glen Miller and Scott Joplin records.
I love my Dad's 70's Rock LPs.
I'd like to think in the future any little dave_g's will
give my Drukqs vinyls a good hammering at top volume too.

I was a pimply-faced teenager yet to lose his virginity when
this came out. Still remember the tram ride home listening
to it on my discman, and the sheer disapointment after
having waited so long for it to come out. It just didn't
blow me away like the other classic RDJ albums. This was the
start of a waning relationship with Richard over the
following years. Ended up burning it to cd, exchanging it
for store credit and getting Chiastic Slide instead :D

just when he had a very certain kind of energy. I'm such a

Richard himself trolling in the comments

"Come on. Talk about over rated nonsense. Aphex Twins never
did anything that wasn't ripped off form the Prodigy,
Chemical Brothers or Fatboy Slim who did it first and best.
The true Godfathers of techno music."

cool :D

i religiously ( administered LSD to myself and my peers and,
one to four hours later, insisted we listen to an album
called "drugs with a q, k, instead of g" and proceeded to
listen ). At this point, I have no idea if his is my
favorite music (by worlds of measure) because of the
simultaneous listening with LSD or because its just awesome.
I loved it when I was 13, but then again, I had just taken
LSD then, as well, though rarely in conjunction with afx.

there is a song on 26 mixes for cash that fades into
sputtering "pftpftpft" sounds, that, on LSD, provided the
most salient and tactile listening experience I have ever
enjoyed.

The in the harmonious region prior to "thank you for your
attention, bye" -- i found myself crying, once.. also the
piano pieces make me quite emotional.

Druqks is great.

Aye, as Oscillik says, both were 180g. The audiophile one is
on virgin vinyl. The standard pressing is one of the best
"standard" pressings I've ever heard though, so no
discernible difference to my ears.

What's he done since that is as good? I only really loved
Bwoon Dub off all the Analords and even that was a bit
disappointing when I heard how weak the bass was on a big
system.

One of those things where you look back a decade on and all
the new AFX, Autechre, BoC, Prodigy, etc. seems weak
compared to the old releases. You wonder is it because the
artists got old and lost their edge, or did you as a
listener get old and only still put the old music on a
pedestal because of how it made you feel back then?

I dunno. More recent stuff by other artists has moved me the
way the old AFX tracks did, so maybe it's not just
nostalgia.

the old stuff sounds better because of how it made you feel
when you first heard it.

so many artists just make shit now, that used to be awesome.

to contradict that though, the analords series is some of my
favourite afx stuff.
