Quentin Tarantino's severely under-educated USA redneck
teenager dream of what WW2 was like. Hitler the Clown. Rock
music in WW2 (wtf?). Jews kicking the Nazi's backsides
(Dude, that's not what happened irl...). Brad Pitt's bad
southern accent. The finale set in a cinema and the
obsession with movies and films rather than the actual
subject matter of WWII!. "Classic scene" of woman in red
dress in the mirror, that has nothing to do with anything
except director homage/overintellectualisating. Ennio
Morricone aesthetic mismatch soundtrack (great music that
doesn't fit the film). Yuck!

I'm really surprised at all the 10/10 reviews out there. I
bet that future generations will ignore this film, 'cos it
steals the ideas of the classics but it's not a classic
itself.

There are good points to the film, like sexy women and nice
sets and acting and stuff, but it would be much better if
Tarantino didn't make it.

World War 2 colour footage
The reality of World War 2 is far more beautiful, creepy,
sickening, chilling, and weird than the shit flowing out of
Tarantino's ears. See Hitler playing with a dog and chatting
to a girl in a friendly way, just like your grandfather
might have done. See nasty fucker soldiers enjoying grapes
in the countryside. See the North Korean-like
cult-of-worship adulation of mass murderer Stalin. English
women and young children trying on gas masks. Etc etc. Loads
more things in this video, which at 9 minutes long, blows
away any of this stupid stupid aintitcoolnewsgeeksatisfying
Tarantino shite.

no intention of seeing it.

I take 10/10 reviews with a grain of salt in general, but
for this movie I'm inclined to think anyone who says 10/10
is an utter moron.

i think that the intellectualizing like tarantino does does
not make art per se. also it's maddening this particular guy
is the most poplular film author or whatever you want to
call it, independent film maker, whatever. especially
because it's because people think he's hip

the movie is flawed in several aspects. too many characteres
for instance. kind of sloppily written or edited.

however. i did get to see an original film. i hadn't seen
anything like it yet. i did think it was funny and cool
(though i can hardly stand the violence). it's good
tarantino took on ww2 because the movies on them seem to be
made with a rigged mold

the point is the last paragraph of this review is maddening.
it's a movie and fiction: people didn't go to the theatres
to see a documentary on how crazy ww2 was

Dont get me wrong,I adore Tarantino films, but the subject of
world war two is one thats very close to my heart, and it
makes me sick that some fat fucking 'movie mogul' probably
watched the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan and
said...'Bah,I wish that whole ww2 thing was a little more
hip you know?'(pause)'Wait just a goddamn minute...whats
Quentin doing?Get that motherfucker on the phone...'etc
etc.
I looked forward to this film, watched it all, cringed through
most of it,and will not watch it again.
I apologise for the swearing in this post but it really was
a bloody awful film.

the movie theatre part was just so awesome. with the nazis
enjoying a ultra violence movie. that too is very
unrealistic because the nazis were actually for family
values, a herrenvolk

the film is a collection of good ideas arranged in bad way,
it's a movie in which I sense he struggle to be cool. If you
pick characters per se they have great potential, you see a
character introduced with his name on the screen as he is
going to be badass and then you realize he is not that
important in the storyline, the blackspoitation reference
has no purpose at all and Landa is a dumbass with a big pipe
or a evil character?

Still it's a nice film, it could be great though.

but he'd been playing with the idea for 10 years. also i'd
still like to see him as independent, despite the financiers
know investing in tarantino will always pay, if it's funny
and violent enough.

after 60 years, and many respectful movies, it should be ok
to make light of it once? make light of the movies and myths
mostly, because imo it doesn't really make light of ww2
anyway, because it's so unrealistic

this is a weird film, as it isn't historically correct, or
wants to be. it's a strange tale in a rich, detailed, b
movie manner, that concentrates more on a couple of
characters. these characters make the movie bizarrely
enjoyable.

like it or not it is a very original piece, despite its
inspiration.

Brad Pitt? oh lol?
Landa smokes a big pipe? fantastic?
Daniel Brühl? Fuck off?

i'm sure there are more questionmarks to be found but i'm
tired.

you're missing out on two or three good dialogues though.
the king kong vs african american slavery dialogue, the jews
vs rats dialogue and there's probably another one i'm
missing here.
the amount is sub-par for a tarentino movie, but
individually they're enjoyable for what they are.

As I said in the original Inglorious Basterds thread, this
film thinks it's far cleverer than it actually is. While
it's shot beautifully and is full of little curios and
touches that interest and entertain it is completely ruined
by Tarantino's 'I'm a scholar of fucking genre film, watch
as I reference stuff and lecture you at every available
opportunity' attitude. This makes massive stretches of the
film dull and his desire to insert every fucking brain fart
he has gives the movie serious pacing problems in the last
half.

Also who in there right minds thinks casting fucking Eli
Roth in any acting role is a good idea, let alone one
pivotal to the story.

Tarantino's films are increasingly becoming condescending to
the viewer, he needs less yes men agreeing with his self
obsessed preachy 'this is what's awesome, I'm a fucking
barometer of cool' crap and more people who just want to
make a decent movie.

so yeah i've watched Lars von Trier's Europa last night and
i gotta say Tarantino is a sack of shit. Europa had
everything Basterds didn't have, which was a lot: humour,
characters, decent acting, excellent camera and editing,
soundtrack, an intriguing plot, VERBOTEN NEIN VORSCHRIFT,
and a fucking train.

The opening scene is great. I'm probably a philistine but I
think the Western soundtrack in the beginning was
hilarious.

Less good, but amusing was the Michael Meyers en Churchill
scene.

Less good, but still pretty intense is the bar scene. Did
they play '20 questions' back then already btw?

I liked it a lot, I thought Brad Pitt was really holding it
together for me but it seems like a lot of people thought he
was shit. Landa was amazing, I loved the whole first scene
and pretty much all of Landa's scenes. Some of the quirky
Tarantino shit was a bit silly like flashing names up on the
screen, Bowie etc. I don't understand why people can
complain about it not being historically accurate, who gives
a fuck.

It's not meant to be historically accurate. If you think it
is, you're missing the point completely.

Anyone hoping to garner historical accuracy from a Tarantino
movie should have known better.

The real problem lies in Tarantino's scripts, which are
bloody awful and get worse with every movie. Each scene is
overly long, and most of the dialogue nothing but a big bag
of shite that does nothing to enhance the story.

There doesn't seem to be any room for improv, or that moment
of genius that might come from an actor being allowed to
exhibit their personality or lose themselves in the role.
They just stick to the script like glue, which is bad
filmmaking in my opinion.
