It seems a lot of you were waiting for Numbers Lucent. So,
what's the verdict?

For me it's Just a Souvenir, definitely.

Lucent. I much prefer this style, but I still like JAS.

Even though I haven't yet listened to Numbers Lucent at
all... I can safely say Just a Souvenir is the better
of the two.

just a souvenir for me.
numbers lucent is good and all (espicially tracks 3n4... 5's
good too) but just a souvenir is just a little better.

Numbers Lucent's goodness! But Just a souvenir definitely
rules!! My top 2 Squarepusher albums are...
1. Hello Everything
2. Just a Souvenir

love NL for it's melodic dancefloor killer headbanging
tracks

love JAS for the thrash metal zappaesque headbanging tunes

the livesets from 2008 bring it all together nicely

first listen

it was pretty good 3,5/5

i thought just a souvenir would be a bit shitty and boring,
as i dont like the squarepusher jazzy stuff that much,
but it is pretty good and fun,
it makes me laugh with its rock beats
and makes me flow with great melodies.
and it has that special quality of making me feel entering
in a new original space... jenkinsons quality

Just A Souvenir is a greater achievement and contains lots
of originality (at least as far as Tom's output is
concerned), whereas Numbers Lucent is a pretty
straightforward, but banging old school SP EP... I'd have to
pick the album, just because it's something different.

its curious how the two albums im listening at the moment
are first and last jenkinsons creations,
chaos a.d. versus just a souvenir.

all my respect for jenkinsons career,
always delivering good music,
and always evoluting
and still keeping his own (bipolar) style.

numbers lucent is alright. some good stomping club tracks.
some disposable squarepusher party music. a bit squarepusher
by numbers in places.

just a souvenir on the other hand is a mind bending stonker
of an album and features some of tom jenkinson's most
interesting work to date.

all his stuff is jazzy nearly. You must really hate
Squarepusher.

offline melack from barcielwave on 2009-02-14 04:16 [#02272441]

yea, i know, but its always mixed with other things,
electronic attitude or the rock bits of this last. i meant,
you vinicelish guy, that i dont like when its just jazz, tom
messing with his bass + acoustic jazz drums. thats why i
dont like music is rotted one note or some tunes of just a
souvenir.

You're allowed to prefer part 1 or part 2.. Though i don't
see why numbers lucent should be 'part 2'. Anyway who cares.
:P

I look forward to the new one.

This thread has reiterated how much I have neglected both of
these. I will rectify that as soon as I can.

I do, however, remember loving 'The Coathanger' and the
lyrics to 'A Real Woman'. That makes me LOL hard.

quite like NL but any slightly jazzy moments on any track
ruins it for me

On the second day of listening to 'Numbers Lucent', I think
its significantly better. Not one track I don't like. More
accessible for sure.

Also, I like Squarepusher jazzyness.

now i love both albums,
maybe just a souvenir a little more (its so brilliant),
but i think both are complementaries,
diferents points in same concept,
its just like numbers lucent's tracks didnt fit in the
album,
and were released in an ep instead...

i thought there were good tracks on both

Superb
