hype? i love geogaddi. how could there have been hype? i
know one person who listens to BoC and it's not like there
was media hype. not arguing your opinion on the album; jus
don't understand how such a low key band could be hyped.

Then rdj + Rephlex obviously have good taste...

I wish I could say I hated it but it doesn't stir any
feelings in me at all...bland is the word I'd choose...

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-03-26 09:16 [#00143375]
Points: 6650 Status: Lurker

They strike me as a bit arrogant. Why bother being a twat
about somebody else's music? We're not talking Robbie
Williams.

offline jand from Braintree (United Kingdom) on 2002-03-26 09:21 [#00143376]
Points: 5975 Status: Moderator | Show recordbag

I think it was more arrogant of WARP to push this as the IDM
purchase of the year...they used to let the music speak for
itself but nowadays seem to be getting very "Pushy" with
things....

They are not as bad as most labels by a long way...but they
do have such a good reputation & it's a shame to 'em waste
it by hyping an album that shouldn't really need it...If
it's good, it'll get an bought...

Hype just makes me feel Played (and yes I have been watching
too much Ricki Lake of late...)....

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-03-26 09:27 [#00143378]
Points: 6650 Status: Lurker

I see your point. Warp are independent but its still about
making money.

Its just a bit naff to slag other artists.

offline jand from Braintree (United Kingdom) on 2002-03-26 09:33 [#00143380]
Points: 5975 Status: Moderator | Show recordbag

yeah, it is naff...but like this is 2nd hand info anyway & I
don't think Rephlex have publicy slated WARP at all, and rdj
was kinda OK about em in recent interviews...

I only kinda know about it via an email from Grant talking
about that Rephlex Radio show... we were both kinda suprised
that GLOBAL GOONS album was getting forgotten as everyone
was being blinded by the BoC Hype.... Hype kinda distorts
the marketplace & it can fuck around with little labels. I
think thats why people are a little dissapointed in WARP
recently...

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-03-26 09:38 [#00143383]
Points: 6650 Status: Lurker

Yeah I see. I hate it when marketing fucks with music. Darn
capitalism!

Is Global Goon's album any good? The cover is shit.

offline jand from Braintree (United Kingdom) on 2002-03-26 09:53 [#00143393]
Points: 5975 Status: Moderator | Show recordbag

Yeah, GG is pretty cool...if you like gentle Braindancey
stuff, this'll be right up your street...nice n chilled...

I would have liked to have seen a few harder/experimental
tracks on there to even it up a bit (I'm kinda spoilt by the
eclectic nature of Drukqs I guess)...but thats just my
personal prefference really...

Sorry if this constitutes bumping a redundant topic but I've
also heard that Aphex hates "Drucqs", I personally don't
blame him but make of that what you will.

can't be bothered fixing type o's

Anyway I've been there since "Didgeridoo" came out so I'll
spell it how I like cheers :)
