"plyPhon is very nice, and currently on Tankakern which
is also very dark and tasty. Some typical Ae nonsensical
madness in between tho.

Holy shit, rale just came on and i shat myself. Some of this
makes Pro Radii sound like kids TV music. All in all so far,
very large expansive sound, lots of reverb on reverb, dark
as fuck and any beats so far have been heavy and deep - no
frittery nonsense here.

Hmmm.. rale is good indeed."

(It seems people have begun receiving their promos today.
Unless, of course, this guy is full of shit.)

that being said, he has no reason to lie and is quite
adamant about his telling the truth, so I'm going to listen
intently to what he has to say for now, for the sake of
receiving anything new (information-wise) about Quaristice.
His aforementioned description sounds exciting.

Probably the darkest stuff i've ever heard from autechre. It
sounds awesome, even in the shitty bitrate.

BTW, does anyone else think that rale reminds them of the
start of the terminator theme? Without the melody of
course....

Sounds amazing anyway, can't wait for this now.

Actually, now that I listen more, it reminds me of Aphex

Listening for the first time now... Immediate thought is
that the low bitrate makes it difficult to discern what are
interesting FM sounds and what is distortion tinge ear poo.

Tankakem - Hypnotic. There certainly will be more
going on here than what this low b/r mp3 can give. Weird
melodies in the background (I think). This is a very steady
dark ambient crawler. Reminds me of some of Draft's slower
moments. It kind of cuts off at the end though.

Rale - Dark. Almost sounds like early era Autechre.
Reverb out the ass. Slow and dirty, and I'm hearing muffled
vocals in here too. Things come in and out through the
song. Like the previous song, I think there is more going
on than able to hear in this crap mp3. This is a short
track that kind of dies off at the end as well.

WNSN - Awwwwwweeetechre! True to form. We get that
typical weird structure sound towards the beginning, then it
sounds like it reverses and eats itself up, then turns into
a 4/4 type groove with fucked up pads. This song really
builds up some tension.

Final thoughts:

There's a real good chance The Wire chose more of the slower
tracks to play in this mix. All three songs are pretty much
very repetitive, dark, slow builders. It's interesting how
the endings of each of these songs just dies out or cuts
off. It's can't be the DJ doing that, I think it's intended
tbh. FWIW, we get a very quick snippet of the track that
follows WNSN. It kind of kicks right in, so I am hoping it
will be a face puncher. Sounds like lera in a way, but I'm
going off of a one second snippet.

the title of the set in The Wire is Adventures In Modern
Music 10 January 2008. is that the 10th Modern Music or..
the 10th of January (being a week ago).

Sure, though that guy on Watmm said he got his promo on his

getting their promos like NOW.

I hope at least one of those people are adventurous enough

3 lovely tracks :D I hope the rest of the album is quality
stuff like this :D then it will be a banger for sure!!!! I
hope the others are as good as these.

WNSN is easily my fave out of them!!! Classic AE...5/5.

tank really hit me deep when i heard it, wnsn sounds goddamn
alien so i love that but the quality is a bit shit to make
out the details;..

rale is after contemplation the 'worst' one i would guess,
but tank and wnsn in good quality will be amazing!

this is great, i think autechre may have made a classic
album :)

as a followup, the beats and bass is deep, the higher
pitched elements are way more catchy than untilted was as
well.. the bell layers on tank reminds me of uviol and
parhelic, so theres a bit of confield in that track :D

in general i would say this sounds way catchier, and very
interesting as well, 'deep' is another word that would
fit..

all in all cant wait to blast this at full volume when i get
my hands on good quality ones..

Whoooaaaaa shit this is fucking lush.

Sounds like they're using non-melodic stuff to do the
melodies... the Machinedrum in particular is fucking kick
ass at that.

I want to see them live. Now.

EQd tracks - Dunno if it helps, kinda stealing Pigster
here, but this will stay if the You Send It link drops out.

Cx: Definitely, i found this work a lot more accessible (not
to say I wouldn't have enjoyed something more Confield
hehe). They've brought the melodies out to compete with the
(killer) beats, all the better for it! They do some lush
riffs.

offline pigster from melbs on 2008-01-17 11:18 [#02164518]

man, considering whether i should have a listen or just wait
til i get to hear the full thing.
also, you said you wouldnt have minded it more confield, but
of all their previous stuff, these tracks really remind of
that specific album.

i know its hard to tell with the quality of the mp3s, but is
Rale sitting under a shit load of reverb?

offline 05 from vita contemplativa on 2008-01-17 11:20 [#02164520]

hard to judge with that ridiculous bitrate, but anyway:
sound/production-wise it instantly feels alot better than
untilted. warmer, all nice n' bassy with the pads more to
the foreground drenched in reverb. nice!
structurewise: pretty straight forward grooves with an
emphasis on the dark athmosphere make for an absorbing,
"bodily" listening experience. good!
my favourite so far would be tankakern, damn that one really
got ass, hitting you right in the kisser from the
beginning.
in WNSN i think i can hear some sounds like in the beginning
of the recent live sets, no?
yeah, i'm all the more looking foward to the final product
now, too.

No problem about the EQ, it's funny what boosting the
extreme low and high ends can do hehe.

This stuff does remind me of their live sets, just the flow
from Tankakern into Rale is very very Bloc Weekend :D

I know what I'll be listening to all weekend now then...

I think a lot of people will like these songs. I'm
indifferent, leaning more towards enjoying them though.

I really hope there are some tracks on here that shred my
face off in a beat fest onslaught of autechre fantasticness.
