What! Why not? Aren't you the author of The Bill Murray
Appreciation Thread?

I am Shane. However, my GF does not like Bill Murray and I
couldn't find anyone to go to the cinema, and I don't like
going by myself :[ PITIFUL!

Ah this old thread. Yes he is great. Although the Life
Aquatic was a bit too much. I can't remember anyone smiling
in that film at all. It was like all the actors were asked
to perform Bill Murray types..

I finally watched Aquatic last night. Although some bits
were a bit forced, and it was slow to start, by an hour in I
was lovin' it and laughing my head off. Best Bill moment
probably when they find the sunken vessel and he looks at
the camera, not smiling except for his eyes.
A-fucking-mazing.

"We fuckin' stole it man"

wanting to see it for sure

Probably so little praise because it's not a facile piece of
shit and it's more subtle than a Bush presidential speech.

watched it on dvd last weekend....... really enjoyed it,
quirky little style to it.......... loved the little slo-mo
when he smokes the joint after meeting his son for the first
time

in the mood of the tennembauns?

Oh yeah! That was great, very fitting. The film had so many
things going on it'll be great for multiple viewings. Gotta
check out the commentary this weekend.

Nacho: The tone is identical to Tenenbaums in my opinion.
You liked that, you'll like this.

Enjoyed his cameo in The Darjeeling Limited... I have
to be honest, I'd have liked to have seen him a few more
times in it, although it was quite nice that he bookended
the film.

"Suck up the guts, guys. We're the Ghostbusters"

This being quoted, I must add that 2 is nowhere near as good
as 1.

I love the first half of Ghostbusters 2 and then it turns a
bit rubbish... I love the World of the Psychic show at the
end when Bill "telepathically" sends his message to the
viewers: great stuff.

true. 1 has a lot of promise, but they fuck it up! (maybe
not completely, there are some pretty good moments). the
first part is fun because they show how they picked up their
lives after the state sued the shit out of them. everything
they end up doing is so typical (as Janine says)..

ghostbusters 1 seemed more naturally funny...

I felt the same way. When I sat down at the beginning of the
film I didn't know Murray was going to be making an
appearance (cameo or otherwise), which was a nice surprise,
but I wish he had had a bigger part.

Last night I watched Meatballs for the first time, and I was
hoping for some classic 80's Bill Murray action, but the
movie wasn't very good at all. It was a bit annoying,
actually :(

"the first part is fun because they show how they picked up

- you best not be raggin on ghost busters 2!!! Everything
about it is spot on. 1. The slime, you gots to have some
slime. 2. It has wotshisface (yanesh?)....the one that
becomes hypnotised by the evil painting. 3. It has all the
best 80's montages like the 'higher and higher' bit with the
statue of liberty (fuckin yess!!!). The montage where the
ghosts are taking over the city!!! 4. More slime, the
bathtub is brilliant! 5. The bad guy is cooler, the plot has
a more comfortable structure, and geek guy (wotshisface2)
gets it on with her....y'know...the gal with new yoik accent
:"ghowst bwustez, waddya want?" (<------sorry it's crap I
know). But overall it's just so chocablocked with american
cheese that you simply can't hate it.....can you????
GB 1 is all good but you just can't get american cliches,
bubbling slime, and hollywood heros like you can with GHOST
BUSTERS 2. oH AND THE SOUND TRACK IS COOLER.
"I,I,I,I AINT AFRAID'A NO GHOSTS>!GHOST BUSTERS!"
(singit!!!)

i may come across as being critical towards ghostbusters 2,
but i really do enjoy the film and have been watching it
regularly ever since i was 7 years old.

it just doesn't hold up i'm afraid. alot of the reasons you
mentioned for liking it, are actually reasons why i feel it
is not as good as the first. i preferred it after peckerhead
(dean yeager) decided to shut the down the system and all
the ghosts were set free. they use these subtle yet
effective laserlike effects which i really enjoy. in general
the movie is darker and more atmospheric plus the music is
better. and like I said...it's funnier. the situations have
more to them. there are way more LOLs.

imhotep.

I just had on the immortal Ghostbusters rap by RUN DMC
earlier.

Zeph: Meatballs is not without its charm - I DLed Meatballs
IV the other day because it had Jack Nance (Eraserhead, Pete
Martel from Twin Peaks) in it - it also had Corey Feldman as
the lead... watch the original and #4 back to back and
you'll be thinking the first is a masterpiece ;)

Wow, I didn't know there are 3 other installments in the
series. Somebody must've thought the premise of the first
film was rock-solid! I agree, though, the movie was not
without its charms. I think I was unfairly expecting a great
movie when I watched it.

hehe, yeah... Bill Murray in summer-camp hijinx.. the
premise promises...

As far as I know, the other three are just cash-ins on the
name, at least two of them were changed to "Meatballs" after
filming had begun and I think Nrs 2 and 3 are more soft-porn
than "comedy".. no doubt you'll be renting em now :p
