Why are you letting this thing wind you up? I'm having a
good time yacking and I'm not offended by anyone.

Now go pray to God for peace of mind!

To each their own, people are more then one sided funk.
Contrary to what you may think, I at least have an open
mind, and value other peoples opinions, and dont run out (of
what should be a discussion, not an arguement, which you
seemed to think this topic is) when I dont like what I am
hearing.

Please get a grip funk. Its ok..... deep breathing.... deep
breath's. Its going - to - be - ok.

"but how is poking fun of God, and Jesus respecting
Christians beliefs? "

I don`t know...but it happens in politics and philosphy and
in any field where there ideological factions at war...

why not religion?

way to explaining God's backside.

the only problem with debating about religion, is there is
no real right or wrong, just what you belive is right and
wrong.

If two people don't agree, tuff shit. That's life guys.

"If everybody looked the same, we'd get tired of looking at
eachother" - some song I can't remember =os

Philosophy is a game with an objective and no rules

Mathemathics is a game with rules and no objective

Religion is the game of making the subjective objective...

Joking apart, I believe that religion is like philosophy,
nobody can win because there are no rules...

It's a purely subjective thing, determined by how one views
and interprets reality...

In other words one should no more call it true and live
one's life by it than one would with a style of cooking or a
genre of literature.

If you acknowledge that religion is the result of human
creativity and has no objective validity outside the mind of
the worshiper, then that is fine by me.

Only thing is, some yokels want to legislate sexual morality
and biology education based on their ancient book of desert
myths! That is not good.

I didnt ask people why they dont believe in god with a
thread that starts out like this: ?!?!?!?!

Seemed like a condesending and rude way to start a
discussion.

So cry me a river if you thought that was going to bring
intellegent discussion to your thread funk.

When you want a discussion, you present your question in a
polite manner, showing no favoratism. Not by useing
punctuation with suggests alarm, shock, the !

You shouldnt be surpirsed that someone bit your head off.

Because if I were to start a topic asking why people believe
in god, with a: !?!?!?!?!?!

for one thing, I wouldnt do it because its not how you start
discussion, and for another, I would get major shit from
religious people here doing so.

treat others how you want to be treated.

Seems very hypocritical to me, a common theme in some
religions IMO

well, you're saying all that based on the idea that I made
this thread looking for confrontation, and to prove all
atheists wrong... well, you're wrong on that assumption...
cause I didn't... shrug, I posted ?!?!?!?!?!?... if you
thought I meant that a certain way, good for you... but I
didn't... I use exclamation points a lot, so sue me... it
didn't seem to bother some people here... some people
actually did start some kind of discussion, or at least try
to... but hey, it's over with... hopefully when the next
moderator comes on, this will be closed...

I really didn't mean anything negative with this thread...
and there's no point in coming back with "Well you
shouldn't..." or "You should've expected..."... it's already
been done in this thread... and I've already made my case
about that... so, lets end this here...

I promised not to write in this topic only because I believe
in God, I'm not religious I just have faith.

But having faith in anything is ones opinion, I believe
there is a devil and there is God.

And I especially dont believe in Evolution, Darwins theory-
and anyone who does believe that has a lot of learning to
do.....religion doesnt have to be church even though it says
in the bible to be around people who believe in the
samethings as you..church.

But theres different connection to how you want to express
that...but I know I'm a child of God, and I can give you two
expamples of how thats so. But I wont screw you all youre
going to HELL. one way ticket!

um, I've been a student of science and evolution and have
read several books and studies by very intelligent and well
ackomplished scientists, and it is without a doubt the most
logical way the human race came to exist. I consider myself
an inteligent person, and because this is what I believe

hmm..

totally disregarding the actual thread topic.. it seems the
people of this board (a few in particular) have been wayy
too touchy lately..
not just in this thread..but there have been others that
have fallen apart into people bickering about something
stupid..

a lot of internet discussion forums have rules against
discussing religion for just that reason.. it almost always
results in people bickering about something stupid..

which, coming back to the topic about atheism.. people's
religious beliefs often result in bickering about something
stupid.. look at a half the conflicts going on in the world
right now.. and the past 1000 years for that matter.. people
bickering about god...

and thats just one small reason why atheist people tend to
avoid believing in some divine being

oh, and i noticed some people brought up catholicism... note
how many atheists were born catholics

well i hope that never happens here! Just becomes something
leads to conflict, doesn't mean it's not worth discussing.

Infact that makes it even more worth discussing!

"Why can't we accept doubt and live with mystery, instead of

invoking myths as mental security blankets? "

i really agree with you there fleetmouse, heres how I see
it, religion is just supposed "answers". people believe
this because they are either taught to believe it or because
everyone else does. if non ones parents ever said\talked
about religion I think the world would have less religious
wars which have been the cause of most. im not saying that
spirituality is wrong but organize religion seems like a big
sack of shit, i mean its other people suggesting\telling you
what \how\where god is and how for you to act. those are
all personal decisions and organizations shouldnt have this
influence over people.

Yes... that's the point. Out of all the theories, evolution
makes the most sense. And is also the only one that has some
form of proof. (to name but one example: why do humans still
have a little tailbone in their skeletons (at the bottom of
the spinalchord)... it has to be a little remainder
from the time we were still monkeys and had tails).

"But I wont screw you all youre
going to HELL. one way ticket!
"

lol! Well so much for my point of christians not making fun
of the atheists ;-) It's a nasty God who will send you to
hell simply for not believing in him... and you call him a
God of love. I think alot of atheists would deserve to go to
heaven far more than some christians... (not aimed at anyone
in particular).

I havent been following this topic much and Im glad I
havent. Discussing religion abroad with the public will get
you no where. Im going to be ambigious with my religion
because I could do with out being told off by some ignorant
hypocrite with a pseudo-intellect. Practice your religion or
belief and discuss it humbly. At the same time respect the
beliefs of others. You shouldnt have to accept anyone elses
standpoints, just tolerate them. Unless of course its rooted
in violence. But thats besides the point. I knew heated
disputes would develop at some point. Its all realtive

know organized religion pulls the blinds then they pull the
wool they open up your head they're fucking with your mind
now you can't see because you're blind you try to make
amends but your heads still spinning round the church of
jesus christ says it's time don't fuck around you want to go
to heaven you see it isn't free give your money up to me

my god is not the one that you wanna to see your god is a
mirage a conspiracy you pray for forgiveness cause your
sinning scared to death so your money you'll be giving

holier than thou with your one way morality i think your
shallow faith isn't based in reality you don't like how were
living we're sinful and obscene why are you judging me?
you're richer than god but you're crying out for more you're
living like a king while you steal from the poor you wanna
be forgiven get on your knees and pray send in your cash and
be saved better hope you've been chosen to be saved cause
your empathy only goes so far today pay no mind to those in
pain they just want the souls that are willing to pay their
way your god's not for me
