i was wondering what type of music you guys mainly listened
to before you got into idm and what made you get into it?

i guess you could say i listened to
alternative/rock/emo/indie (built to spill, *radiohead*
(forever amazing) deftones, sunny day real estate) yeah,
it's kind of sad. radiohead mainly got me into idm, from
reading articles with thom yorke, he threw out some
recommendations and it was the amazing aphex twin autechre
and boards of canada.

what's sad about that? I listened to all those same bands
you mentioned... and also got into idm because of Yorke's
recommendations.

Infact i still listen to all those bands... only not as
much.

i had heard 'at the heart of it all' and 'the beauty of
being numb' by NIN + 7\ before, and liked them... when i
learnt these tracks were remixes by some guy calling himself
"aphex twin", i thought the name "aphex twin" sounded cool
(and so did the tracks in collaboration with NIN), so i
checked it out, and voilà!

broadened my horizons to other stuff, I always liked
ambient, experimental music and alternative music. some
classical or 60's music, Just anything out of the ordinary.

I've come a long way.
1990-1995 I listened just death metal and anything that
would have the words "Death" or "Metal" in it.

Around 1995 I turned to Hardcore (Biohazard, sick of it all,
crowbar)
It was 1996 when I accidently stepped into a techno party,
which got me nuts!
From then I've been listening goa, techno, trance, acid,
hiphop and even some soul.

From around 1995 I've also been interested in ambient and
more music in that direction.
I'm not sticking to one style or genre.

I like reggea too :)
