I liked the old mu forum, the new one was wank though

i don't care either, it was useless. You could post music on
it but no one will listen unless you tag it "breakcore" or
unless people know you've released at least a fart on
hardcopy. So, if you scrap posting music off the list i
suppose there's room left for talking about venetian snares
and upcoming releases?.... Fuck it, it's a useless forum,
let them flush it down the toilet, I'll throw in the turd to
follow it.

old style was a blast
i rarely visit it, and even less posting on the new style.
when it came back up under the new style, i immediately
assumed it was an april fools joke.

even the main-page for the label looks hideous. what was
the reason for change?

big deal, there's a hundred other great labels. that forum
died on its arse the day they decided to redesign it.

i always suspected they changed it in order to deliberately
kill it, or at least lose the idm geeks.

[as far as I can tell it was actually shut down because the
mother of dubstep mary anne hobbes (pbuh) was insulted on
the forum and it was threatening mu's reputation in the
Dubstep Arena]

websites are actually the best
for music, discogs is all we need

I thought the site update/overhaul that looked like shit was
to make it easier for Mike P to update the content quicker.
I liked the old forum...then you got a ton of shit heads
like that 'will' guy spamming every 4 seconds with his shit
music to stupid posts...plus it was just not nice on the
eyes to look for posts.

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-04-14 18:11 [#02194301]

i mean the part i found most frustrating about it was that
any time anybody would be critical of any planet mu artist
the posts would dissapear. so a lot of threads were pretty
much unreadable unless you read them from the very beginning
and got to see the initial critical posts. When you run a
label and a forum on your website you are going to run the
risk of people saying things badly about your labels and
your label's artists. If they/he weren't willing to deal
with that then i personally think its better idea to just
close the forum.

it would be great to see evidence of that. and frankly it
doesn't surprise me there are so many egos and silly
politics in electronic music these days anybody take
screenshots or cache the page?

no screenshots, sorry.

but people were basically saying "why is mary anne hobbes
listed as the artist for this new compilation? she hasn't
written a note in her life. what a poser", and someone else
was saying (i think) that she looks fat on the album cover,
which is obviously not true.

then mary anne - or someone pretending to be her, but i
guess not - turned up and bawled a bit and stomped her feet.
and then someone pretended to be tim westwood. the next
morning it was gone

the forum was out of control from trolling by 12y.o.
american kids with adhd, constant spam of shitty myspace
dubstep mixes and general turgid wank anyway.

!

LOL

keeping the world of fans, critics, zines etc. somewhat
separate from the actual operation seems like the smarter
move to me. let the fans have their own nook where they can
say what they want and the label or artist can manage their
pr.

i don't know if anyone is familiar with litany.net, a skinny
puppy & related mb. Well the band (to be polite)
posts on there a lot and is real involved in what is going
on and they have all kinds of problems like that with posts
getting deleted, people getting banned for being critical
etc.

interesting, ive never been to that forum but i can easily
see that happening. they lost a lot of fans with the Process
(not including myself) and got a whole new fan base with
their 2 newest albums and again lost a whole slew of older
fans again.

and then someone pretended to be tim westwood.

It happens to all messageboards eventually, it's the The
Westwood Clause.

I wonder if we can get him, or Mary Anne Hobbes to step in
and close XLTronic, maybe by repeatedly making reference to
her breathily entoning "Simmm, with three M's. I like that,
ambitious"

I can see why, not all but some were completely ungrateful
for what mike was doing. For a while I remember some were
like "MY FREE SPEECH YOU CAN'T CENSOR ME AHHHHH" after they
would completely bash a release that wasn't out yet that
they downloaded. Or personally attack that artist, thinking
that no one should fight back. Kind of like how they yell at
their mothers to bring them sandwiches and koolaid while
they flame someone about a music genre like ACID that they
have no idea about in the first place because they are 19
and were watching power rangers and rug rats in the US and
not going to crazy underground raves and festivals over
seas.

Ego's in general are hard to deal with. Political, musical,
whatever, it's just really hard to deal with people
sometimes. Unless you completely side with what they are
saying it's an effort that's almost not worth spending
unless there is some ultimate pay of to it, like arguing for
your money back at a store or something like that.

The thing that sucked with muboard was that you had a lot of
people who felt real safe behind the monitor whom at a
distance were very good at populating the board with
hate, slander, bullshit but in person would probably not be
able to speak up. So you had people who in real life are
generally social and use the internet as an extension of
that (and not a replacement) having to deal with these cunts
who ruin the fun for everyone else.

It's so easy to be a prick on the internet. It's aggravating
to have to witness it. It's creatively bankrupt and takes
something that could be fun and enjoyable and turns it into
something not fun and not enjoyable.

Isn't it rather simple? If you run a forum then you moderate
it according to your own principles and rules. If people
start being abusive, ban their IP - not difficult is it?

I suspect the real reason the forum was closed has nothing
to do with the general behaviour of specific users, rather
that they simply couldn't be bothered to moderate it or
their own products were being criticised.

Paradinas is a control freak after all, I have personal
experience of that.

Easy pidg!!

I did post a more considered reply after my initial can of
worms post. I still think it was a valid question to ask but
might have come across as critical. I think mike even gave
an answer. But then danknugz kind of blew it by quoting
MAH's post about never returning and going 'OH NO!!!'

He got banned and then the forum closed.

Not sure where you get that from. We have the Barry Lynn -
Balancing Lakes review online and Meat Beat Manifesto coming
up. We also reviewed the Various Artists - 200 release last
year, Doubtful Guest - Acid Sauna was reviewed for another
publication. The crappy last U-Ziq album. Venetian Snares -
Pink + Green.

Quite like the label and reviews are usually fairly
positive.

there were brilliant minds, not to mention the musicians
