Should the xlt music-makers, put all their spam in one thread instead of making a new thread for every song?
Pros: -Less threads on XLT, and better overview for us "posters-only"
-People who want to hear more (let's say) Impakt tracks, can find all his stuff in the Impakt-thread, and people who wanna hear more "funny jazz loops made sitting on the toilet" know that they will find this in the Drunken Mastah-thread.
Discuss!

I don't because i wan't it to be clear that it's new music thats being uploaded. But if everyone was cool with that, and you only had one topic for your music well... i guess they would get bumped a whole lot more.

I agree with this, but then, you know, if the tracks generate a lot of discussion, you know, for instance, say Grinning Ape's where there's always a lot of praise and a lot wild speculation on just how something like that was put together, then a new track posted in there could easily get lost as people climb over themselves to say just how good the old ones were.
Premium members need some combination of space to upload tracks, and then some maybe RSS thing.. that alerted you to new tracks posted.. and then maybe like the discography a "Discuss this track" which kept it in the one.. thread.. oh no but then that doesn't work.. maybe "Discuss this amateur bedroom musician" to keep all talk of that... it's difficult isn't it? Maybe just have a link to your myspace page in your profile.

i would find it annoying to search an old thread for the new song, so i dont think that would be such a good idea...
having space for artists, with some info blinking on latest update sounds better, but then there still would be a new thread for the comments...
having space or permanent threads like phobses would have the advantage that it would last longer than a spam thread going to the bottom if its not discussed, but maybe that spam threads that are no good wont stay long is exactly the way it should be...
im keen on phobs new solution

Am I missing the point that a music forum containing threads regarding music are considered spam, ...so we should have a way to filter out the "spam", that being, threads about music, on a music "themed" forum?
I'm all for staring at 6pt pixel fonts and going "ooh-aah", but shouldn't the general consensus be... this is a forum relating to music, so threads containing that content shouldn't be marked as spam...

There's some other thing about Spam in this corner of the Internet not meaning what it's wildly recognised as meaning, everywhere else.
Some of these things really need to go in the FAQ.

Yes, I can see your point and understand your confusion. It's not really about spam per definition, but the danger in having self promotion threads taking over the messageboard. A surprisingly amount of members, which are considered hardcore electronic music lovers find these threads annoying.
I hope to solve this issue with a new concept introduced with the next version of this site and make everyone satisfied.

I think the [spam] filter is the best idea. I dont have a problem with the amount of spam though.
If everyone had a spam thread people would probably just start dumping every noodle they made in their thread instead of being more conservative about what they spammed. And also I bet there would be a lot less responses.

I see your points. I'm guilty of that (in my short stay here).
Sometimes though, on rare occassion you find something great and want to share (something new) with people, and on rarer occassion, create something you want to share...
Granted, I maintain a board for breakcore/darkstep, and nothing drives me more insane than someone popping in and dropping a link to their site promoting booty house ass shaking techno shit not worthy of being a CDR coaster offered free at your local nightclub.
No offense to all you booty house ass shaking techno "people". Scratch that. I meant to offend.
;)
I can see how the weight should be placed on discussing music, not promoting it though. Then again, stagnating by discussing the same 5 artists (take your pick) can get a bit boring. Good to throw something new in the mix. :)

There will be tools for the unsigned/signed artists to better promote their new creations, in a professional and exciting way, not just plug a thread ignored by 50% of the members anyway. :)
There will also be tools for the potential audience to give feedback, discuss and rate the new creations.

thing is, like some dodgy redneck outback, this forum is weary and hostile to stangers, so unsolicited spam usually gets shot down. posting links to music you found etc doesnt seem to be regarded as spam, and only seems to count as spam spam if you're the artist spamming your own spam.

heh yeh, I'd say my greeting was less than welcoming ;) (thanks dog_belch)
I'm curious now to see the new features, and see something refreshing coming from a forum based community (more-so than a seperated forum to post new tracks that noone ever reads). Some years back I was part of dnbscene.com, which allowed users to upload (or link to) their tracks, and a core of reviewers gave harsh prospective reviews on the tracks. More often than not (although some cases proved otherwise), people were respectful and accepted critisism like adults.
em411.com has a nice little player integrated into there site.. but it's a bit of a pain the navigate.
As a side note, it's a rather difficult thing being an artist, and trying to get your craft out there (in any medium), and granted you may have to weed through a fair bit of trash to find a gem.. but sometimes it's totally worth it.

you know, if you do xltronic records and mail one single cd of the xltronic vibes to yourself and hand yourself a dollar, you can get on wikipedia
that aside, I think making spam threads more of a "special" thing with a few more options ("rate this track" ++) is a good idea, but I don't think dorkstos initial idea has anything to it; the topic of a spam isn't the artist, but the song itself. Songs from one single artist can vary across all conceivable genres (just look at impakt, and I don't really stay within one single genre/subgenre myself). Having a large thread of all spams and posts related to these spams would just make everything really really confusing. Say you did one thread for each artist in the discogs instead of one thread per release: comprehensible or confusing, you think?
Just because mr Gammel Støver is unaware of the large amount of talent exhibited by certain spammers here and generally shows a pessimism for anything not that doesn't have the name hecker in it, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to open his ears.. to the future.

On topic, I very rarely listen to tracks posted by people on here. If they were out the way, that would be good as far as I'm concerned....
Perhaps they could be done in the same manner as the discography somehow? I dunno, or maybe a little forum per user, found within the users profile that could be used for this stuff?? Just woke up, bleh.......
