there were two.

a 30-minute one and a 45-minute one.

I bought them on video.

and I also have the first one as an avi.

they are simply wondeful.

i was looking through the "prehistory of the far side" the
other day. its funny that he actually recieved some very
angry letters over certain cartoons.

the incident where the captions for two unrelated cartoons
got mixed up, but no-one complained because everyone assumed
it was one of those larsonisms that only 5% of the
population 'get' was classic

that actually happened twice - from an interview with Larson
for Salon.com:

"Twice the Dayton Daily News inadvertently translated it
into "Dennis the Menace," by switching the captions on the
side-by-side panels. (It didn't do much for "The Far Side,"
but greatly improved "Dennis the Menace," as in the cartoon
in which Dennis tells his doting mother, "I see your little,
petrified skull ... labeled and resting on a shelf
somewhere," a line that had been intended for a Neolithic
fortune-teller.)"

ha ha!

'show-n-tell' what he found at the beach last summer?

it's one of my favorites!

Gary Larson comes into my work quite often buying amps,
mics, mixers and such. He's a jazz musician and I get the
impression that's what he spends most of his time doing
these days. Judging from the gear he's bought he has a
pretty advanced digital set-up. Not surprisingly, he hasn't
said anything funny in the dozen or so times I've talked to
him. I have a feeling he's one of those guys who's
constantly filled with self doubt as to whether what he does
is actually funny or not. Incidentally, he is always
wearing the comedians tuxedo, ala Seinfeld, consisting of
tennis shoes, jeans and sweater.
