you spend more time with your own brain than anyone, and as such, you, the brain-owner, are best qualified to operate/service it. an external perspective/brain/therapist/psychologist can help, but there has to be some sort of extended mapping procedure where the foreign brain attempts to simulate your brain. this, obviously, is impossible to do completely. consequently, therapy works best when the therapist is smart and the patient is dumb as a box of rocks. in the end, the doctor has some concept of brains, society, and how these two should play together. by going to a therapist, you're asking the therapist to bring you into his reality, his brain. this is only desirable if your current reality is unpleasant, dysfunctional, etc. my personal reality is neither unpleasant nor dysfunctional, simply odd. and i am smarter than most therapists. |

Wow, I can't believe this site (and you guys) still exist! I was on here 10 years ago. As far as identity problems go, I've resolved most of them. A third party might not agree, but you do get that. |

Have you considered fascism? Maybe a perm, and insistence on wearing only Leather and Denim. Seriously, is it really that important to asociate yourself with certain things, ideaa or groups? Of course i have a sexual, political, etc orientation, but i never thought that this is important or that i 'need' to tell people what books i read or what music i listen to. No one really cares about this stuff, this is the impression i got over time. |

maybe your doctor considers identity to mean something deeper, like taking everything aside, all worries, women, politics etc.. who are you? your identity has more to do with how you view and think about yourself than it does the society at large. it reminds me of interviewing for a job - both the interviewer and the interviewee know what an interview is, but when you actually sit down and talk, what do you want to say? what does the interviewer want to know about the subject? what specific things do you want to show? |

You are right. I kinda lack discipline. And Im actually seeing a doctor because of this. However, i refuse to take full responsibility of this problem. In our capitalist society Discipline is very important. But I primarly do this for myself and not because it is helpful in finding a better job or whatever |
