making a beer really alcoholic is not a difficult/expensive process, it just means there was more sugar in the brew initially for the yeast to ferment. this is why we have things like malt liquor and bum wine.
the real art is making a strong brew and having it taste good. that takes talent.

yeah, I realised shortly after posting that it wasn't a matter of making it have a high alcohol content, but rather loading it up with alcohol and making it taste good.
What I should have said is that I don't want to know how the folks behind Steel Reserve got it to 8.0% and managed to make it taste just slightly stronger than natty light.
Either way, it's a pretty foul concoction. :)
