Talking about TTC, I can't believe how crap thre last album
is. Both lyrics and music are awful, even weakest than on
Batard Sensible (Sensible Bastards, NDLR). It's a shame
since they did some good tracks back in the days.

I find Untilted pretty "glitchy", but you've said before
that you enjoy it.

A lot of "IDM" is better to dance to than anything else,
imo. It lights up your body like a derranged atomic bomb.

I don't know what the fuss is, records are released by the
fucking truckload everyday, not counting net releases, club
nights and gigs are going on every night. "IDM" is on the TV
every day largely soundtracking documentaries or adverts.
When Ronald Reagan died, over here in Chile on the national
news, they started the little "look back at his life"
segment with the opening of Aphex's "Girl/Boy Song" in the
background.

A lot of popular music today isn't so much rubbish, as
highly stylised, marketed adverts for itself, there's often
no song as such, just a bit of attitutde, some clothes and a
sassy title acting as a vehicle for the artist to move onto
acting or simply promoting themselves.

if everyone put in a couple of quid and all bought the same
mp3 a few times they could get an idm artist to the top of
the charts and really get the music out there and to a wider
audience. they dont though. a lot of fanboys dont want their
precious underground music going commercial (especially in
scenes like drum and bass). if i had 5 grand spare id make a
hideous piece of shit track (much like normal) buy my own
mp3 thousands of times, get it in the UK charts and see what
happens. i was talking to a lecturer at college about if an
unknown act who made the kind of stuff i did was touring the
same venues as local rock bands and playing at the same
nights with a more mainstream audience would they build up a
much larger mainstream fanbase because people would be more
willing to listen? he said yes and i said no (mainly because
i was the example)

sorry if this is jibberish i have had a few.

i agree about popular music being stylised. its product and
the reason its popular is because the lifestyle on display
hits a chord with your average punter.

I kind of enjoy IDM being a little obscure. It adds some
mystique to it. You have to really be a music fan to go out
and find it, and enjoy it. How fucking annoying would it be
if every other person had an Aphex's Twin ring tone.

Maybe he and others who hate "glitchy" music do have a
point-that it's getting a bit tired and stale-but there's
nowhere else to discuss that music. I like a bit of Richard
Devine-esque DSP fuckery, and I thought this would be a
place where people who actually, you know, enjoyed "annoying
glitch" like Mr. Devine's could....Actually, forget it.

IDM is basically something people get into to hold it over
other people

like being a vegan
