yeah I hate all your music to death you're the crapiest
artist to never have been signed!!! 1

except for that one album on a weblabel somewhere, that's
really awesome till the end of times cause it's on a label

I don't understand why you bother? This thread had an idea
that I truly thought was a benefit to both the spammers and
the rest of the community.

ask yourself why you bother

it's basically that I find your attitude shitty and that you
don't want to listen to anyone who's unsigned makes me think
you don't really like music but just want to be cool.

also, as I said, this won't benefit anyone; a thread about
one or more tracks is a thread about those tracks,
not the person making them. In other words, if we were to
follow that policy you suggested up there, and apply it to
the discogs as well, you'd get one thread for all releases
by richard d james, one thread for all releases by boards of
canada, etc. Do you think that would make it easier or
harder for you to discuss one single release (which is
waaaay more fruitful than discussing all releases
made by the artist under one; you may hate druqks and love
analords or something, but how does that apply to the
artist? 50-50 love/hate?)?

The rest of the community would benefit more by listening to
some of the spams than they would by not listening to them,
btw, but I guess it's easier to leave what music you'll
listen to up to some drugged up guy in some record label.

take horsefactorys stuff, for instace: some of the loveliest
sounds around here are produced by him. Hyakusens stuff,
when he was around, was awesome minimalistic stuff (I have
one of his albums or something). dog_belch has some good
stuff (though some times I feel he's wasting his talent, but
I suspect he is drunk a lot). Skink I remember has some
greatness somewhere. That one album I have by Taffmonster is
awesome... and there are many more, but I can't be arsed to
mention them to you because you're going to let yourself
miss out on it anyway.

all you norwegians - relax!

you are both right and wrong at the same time.

xltv2 will take care of it.

I think what it needs is for the board (hey, maybe do a new
version, call it v2 for arguments sake) to have a more
comprehensive search facility and for it to be easier to
arrange topics by user / topic / posters and then filter
them so you could look up a track, it'd be nice as well if
each artist had a page that linked to all their tracks and
the appropriate threads ... I think the board's got to get
away from being quite so ... linear, and become more ...
nebulous. Hey, web2, another thing that's always only a day
away.

But spam, some of my favourite music I have got from people
here, and I'm very pessimistic about music from
anysource. As Drunken_Mutha says, Horsefactory, Hyak
did brilliant tracks, Pomme/Liz Enloe (two of my favourite
albums, of ever, two), qrters arty euro classics, I'm
still waiting for goodbyegonzagou to follow up
stuwhat, Dirty Priest's skewed pop, the mighty
Stephanie Tanner Suprise, Ecnad's 30 second vingettes that
hint at what he could do if he was bothered, DM himselfs
brand of lunacy, the stazs, the impakts, I even liked one of
saskrotches the other day.

If it wasn't for the SPAM this place would be a far POORER
place.

I really really wish ecnad would get signed so that
he'd have to finish his tunes in order to release
something. He's such a tease...

ok, some appetizers then.......

xltv2 WILL feature artistpages for premium members and they
will have 100Mb of storage to play with.

the community has three subcategories of people if we look
into "selfpromotion" maincategory:

1) ppl who check out ALL new tracks posted here
2) ppl who only check out the goodies/favourites/buddies
work
3) ppl who don't give a shit

the current [spam]-system is actually only suitable for
subcategory 1, because a) it's tricky for cat2 to find out
the goodies and b) it's a mess for cat3

and in order to satisfy all three subcategories we need to
apply my upcoming concept which will allow:
cat1 to find out all usercontributed tracks FAST and
in ONE place. cat2 will find the goodies via a
rating-system, their favourite artist by subscribing
or browsing them, their buddies by subscribing or
browsing them.
cat3 has the ability to filter out selfpromotion
material, but still has the ability to find out what's good
but only when they're in mood for it.

Right, sounds good, sounds promising, I see you've been
psychologically profiling the site's visitors using the
MASSES of data you've harvested over the years, quite scary
to think what you might have on me. But yes, look forward to
that then.

I have NEVER said that I won't listen to unsigned artist. My
point is that enjoy using SLSK, allmusic and Boomkat to
explore and dig up new music myself. What I don't care for
is to get spam thrown in my face. Try to read the "original"
topic where we discussed this, one more time.

offline Drunken Mastah from OPPERKLASSESVIN!!! (Norway) on 2006-12-01 07:04 [#02010622]

what are you doing on xlt then if you use those pages for
discovering new artists? I get most my music recommendations
here, and most of them are, in your sense of the word,
thrown at me, even if it is spam or if it is a thread about
some artist someone likes. One person talking about
another's music isn't too far removed from spam, it's just
that you aren't getting it from the source, and you more
often have to use google or something to search up some
samples, because people around here don't seem to like the
idea of posting links when they want to discuss stuff that
isn't a youtube video or a silly gif or something.

That's one thing I can see that'd improve the quality of
posts: if you're (a general "you," not directed at *you*
right now -x) going to talk about an artist, add a link to
his stuff. If you can't find any samples, say so. In most
cases, even when I've just heard a small snippet of someones
song, I'm able to track down some samples (I mainly search
boomkat, amazon, bleep and musikkonline and maybe also
cduniverse or whatever that site is called, but if these
fail, google hasn't let me down too many times) that I can
provide in a thread where I'm asking a question about that
artists music.

i think phobs idea is nice. personally all these threads
don't bother me much but i very rarely check something out,
because there's simply too much other music to check out.
but then this is an electronica message board so it's
probably normal to have all these threads since mostly
people interested in electronic music post here.

When I signed up in feb 2002, there was no spam. To take the
short version, I signed up to get some musical questions
answered. I use XLT different than you. Handle it, and stop
throwing personal shit in my face.

BTW, you actually contributed to this topic telling me why
you think my idea was bad. I appreciate that, but can live
without the rest.

Thing is, I'm handling it just fine. It's you who feel you
have to "get something done" about the spam. Isn't that an
indication that you're not handling it?

I'm not throwing any shit in your face (unless you're
somehow referring to the spam topics).

WTF do you call a statement like: "it's basically that I
find your attitude shitty and that you don't want to listen
to anyone who's unsigned makes me think you don't really
like music but just want to be cool. "???

If you think that making a topic about how I think spam can
be "organized" to give XLT a better overview is not
handeling it, then yes. I have a problem.
