oh, and the illusions.. where do they come from? why do
you
have an illusion of a choice instead of a choice? you'd
have
to know your feeling of choice isn't a choice to be able to
know that it is an illusion, but have you ever experienced
this somehow, that there really isn't a choice?

Of course there's a choice. The self makes the choice. But
the choice isn't freely made. As I have said if some
endo-self was isolated in a vacuum making pure, uninfluenced
choices then the choices would be meaningless and the self
incoherent. To reiterate, the choice is the sum of inner and
outer vectors of influence, and that's why the choice has
meaning and applies to the situation
. That's why you're
you and made that choice.

yes, I've already said we have reasons to act as we act, but
I must still insist that reasons aren't determining, they
are merely reasons. as proven by looking at for instance
christians, not even an overwhelming amount of reasons for
doing something (or not doing something, depending on what
you're talking about) has any sort of force about them in
the face of human will.

as for Spinoza, I'll just say that Sartre seems more right
to me though I haven't read spinoza (nor do I find it likely
that I ever will) and then we can let them fight.

it isn't necessarily about changing your course of action,
it is about knowing and admitting that you are free to
choose the action you choose, and that you are ultimately
the cause of your actions; you have weighed reasons for and
reasons against and you have decided on what course of
action to take depending on your view of the situation. Even
in some situations where you feel you have no choice, like
if a man is holding your child hostage and is telling you to
kill someone, you're free to choose your course of action,
you just let one of the reasons (either for or against)
weigh more heavily than another reason.

And, ok, you feel free, but don't you believe you're
deceiving yourself then? no, wait.. you can't. because you
can't choose not to feel free because you're determined to.
and if you do, you're determined to again.

you're still missing the target with that.

I'm not saying your choices can't be influenced, they just
aren't absolutely determined and an influence doesn't amount
to more than a "reason for" (or "reason against") and not
even the most overwhelming amount of reasons can
compel you to act in one way rather than the other.

Gentlemen, I have decided been determined
to make a pizza. I will return to this thread later, like a
dog returning to its vomit.

Ahh, I really like your show, I think Fleet's my favourite
DJ of all time. And it's not just the "lush" voice and
"fucked up" selections. It's something purely sexual.

Thank you, gentlemen. *wiggles hips for db*

impakt, are you from Bangkok?

Drunken Mastah: Sartre is a plague bearer, not a
philosopher.

on the contrary dear sir

any form of determinism is the plaguebearer. Most
existentialist thinkers are the cure.

I should probably note that you did a good cut, btw, but
it'd be better if it had some kind of special theme like the
voices one.. but you gave your explanation in the cut, so..
yeah, I enjoyed it.
