I hate modern buildings. They should all be destroyed. My
city is undergoing a mass building frenzy. Characterless,
sterile, Barratt-home style office blocks are popping up
everywhere.

Ceri & Jedi Chris should back me on this one.

Fuck the Millenium (Stadium)

I would love to have the oportunity of changing your mind by
having a nice talk with you...but as that is impossible... I
will tell you that every style has good and bad things...

Nacmat, I'm not saying ALL, just most. I don't know what its
like in Espana but here its getting really ugly.

When I went to Spain there were loads of beautiful
buildings. I went to a medeival town called Gerona which was
soooo beautiful

I am glad you liked it here in spain...
most of architecture is always crap... now and then...its
only that now we only see the good buildings from the past
that survived through the years... but there was lots of
crap then too.
in 500 years they will only see the great buildings of this
century...that as always have happened they are a minority

Yeah I see your point. I just wish more of the beautiful
buildings survived and took up more of our space.

pyramids are such a mistery and they are so perfect...so
tense... dont know how to describe them in english...they
look like they can stay there till the end of time

offline korben dallas from nz on 2002-03-13 11:19 [#00124009]

actually - i'll take the pyramid thing back .. because i
actually quite like the idea of those granite shafts with
such wicked craftsman ship .. and all the "debatable"
astrological significance behind it all .. a la Graham
hancock

the greek stuff tho - i don't know .. i guess i could always
say a sculpture of dionysus or so for kicks. ?? what was the
one where he was born out of his mothers? leg ! .. i'll put
that down.

re architechture i love it - but haven't a clue re: the
people behind the building so to speak

Flea, I noticed you like Rodin too. Have you seen his house
in Paris? If not and you're ever in France it's well worth
the trip. I love his sculpture it has far more "soul" and
warmth than the roman sculptures. The ones of lovers done
out of one piece of rock are brilliant.

I have to side with Jonesy here Nac, the architecture of new
out of town shopping centres (Jedi Chris esp. culverhouse
cross) is dreadful.

New architecture isn't so bad if it's done with a decent
budget but so many are just awful breeze block
monstrocities.

I've only been to Menorca in Spain, but I liked the old
fashioned architecture of the police station in Cuitadella.

The problem isn't in the archetecture it is the lack of
crafts men/women that are being trained.

Crafts people trditionally are carpenters, masons ect.
Disiplins that are seen as not useful in todays society with
mass production and mecanised manufacturing.

Nac: I've never been to NY, but my friend (the one starting
architecture) said it had some good buildings. As I said,
some modern stuff with a lot of budget is good (NY &
London), but most "cheap" buildings look shoddy.

010101: I definately think that they should bring back craft
apprenticeships rather than these monkey degrees that
universities do nowadays.

Jonesy:
Forgive me...
I helped design part of the millenium stadium - but it
wasn't used as they were already way over budget. The
bastards. I'm mates with the people who made the roof
mechanism though (it broke down recently ha ha).
