It would be a nice idea to use the font on XLT somehow. What
do you say Phob?

You don't even need that anymore. Just get FontLab. It's a
fantastic program.

So, the story so far...

Rough Cut

Hanfont

Now I need one more for the complete set. Decisions,
decisions....

If I only had a decent scanner I would've made some.

it'd be awesome if you had that in TTF

I do have it in a TTF. Thats the whole point of the project,
silly :)

Not yet. I'm looking into the possibility of licensing or
selling the fonts, but nothing has been decided yet (and I
need to speak with hanal about it). The purpose of the
project was to make some typefaces which weren't public and
use in my design work, but in the end I think it'd be nice
to have them out there too. Stay tuned....

i was afraid you were going to say something like that. i
agree though. it's the smart thing to do.

offline uzim on 2006-11-05 07:04 [#01997935]

so, wait...
is it part of a module you had to do for university, a way
for you to get money or both? ' _ -

offline Brisk from selling smack at the orphanage on 2006-11-05 07:25 [#01997950]
Points: 4667 Status: Lurker

The module in question is called T&P (techniques and
processes) whereby you choose a subject which is focused on
a technical aspect of design and use it as a means of
research and development to aid you in your visual work
later. In my case, i'm interested in typography so I decided
to try my hand at making typefaces, and learning the font
creation process. Nobody else is doing this on my course.

I'm happy with the way they've turned out, and I believe it
is beneficial not only from a monetary perspective, but also
for my actual degree/portfolio if the typefaces are
available for purchase. But as I say, with regards to
Hanfont, I need to speak to hanal first. The same would
apply to anyone elses type design I converted (and I still
need to do one more!)

why not design a couple more and perhaps make some money of
it?

offline Brisk from selling smack at the orphanage on 2006-11-05 11:41 [#01998045]
Points: 4667 Status: Lurker

I don't think theres much money to be made selling fonts
from what i've seen, but I guess its worth giving it a go.
Even if you only sell about 20 at $30 each, thats money for
more records! And hanal will of course get 50% of all sales
from Hanfont. I've enquired into a few places already, but
its a Sunday so they probably won't reply until next week.
But yeah, i'm up for more. A really insane wildstyle one
maybe? It'd take ages to make and convert, but it'd be worth
it i'm sure.

offline Brisk from selling smack at the orphanage on 2006-11-05 11:45 [#01998054]
Points: 4667 Status: Lurker

But the good thing about selling the fonts rather that
distributing them for free is that only the people who
genuinely care and will use them creatively will want them.
The last thing i'd want is to see the fonts used on some
pre-teen website devoted to how "tupac iz god lol" or some
shit. I'd kill myself if that happened.

Hey. Sounds cool. Both fonts look good. I should do that for
a class. Typography?

offline Brisk from selling smack at the orphanage on 2006-11-13 10:07 [#02001489]
Points: 4667 Status: Lurker

Typography indeed. I've just completed the 1.1 revision of
Rough Cut which looks much nicer now. The main bitch with
fonts is getting all the characters aligned properly, with
consistant weight. I think i'm gonna stop now, since I have
literally spent close to 60 hours on Rough Cut alone. But it
does look pretty slick now, so i'm glad I did it. Thanks
again to Hanal, and everyone else who helped. I'll keep your
templates in case I decide to do another later.

Well, when you get a scanner (or access to one), send it
over then. I'll probably get round to converting it within
the next few months ;)

BTW hanal, I found some excellent graffiti fonts from
here. That wildstyle one is particularly
impressive, though somewhat limited in its use I suppose.
