This makes me feel as uncomfortable as the time a manager
where I was working said he wanted to find my "sweet spot".

Why would I want to pay $7 for an e-mail address?

Also, is that a yearly fee or a one off? Do you cancel the
e-mail account after one year?

that, and also no email box is spam-free these days. unless
you don't use it.

bob: you're not actually paying for the mailbox, but for the
actual "Pluspack", which is including the oppurtunity to get
yourname@xltronic.com. we're trying to find a balance
between xltronic expenses and how to cover them and at the
same time provide something useful and nice for ppl who
wants to help us out by subscribing to our services. but
obviously, there are always someone who dislikes your ideas
(but usually never come up with something better).

as for the gmail spamfilter, it's the best filter i've tried
so far. no spam has been able to get thru to my
mailbox so far - and, believe me, i usually get >100 spams /
day. my old (3rd party outlook) spamfilter usually caught
around ~90% of them.

we have around 85 more xltronic e-mail accounts to offer.
so, if you're interested, let me know.

the accounts will expire if you're not renewing the Pluspack
yearly, because a) since the # of accounts are
limited, give other members the ability to get e-mail
accounts... and b) my webhosting provider want me to
pay the bills even next year

How about a free forwarding address for all users but if
they want mailbox space then they pay the $?

Seems a much better route for me. It's a better step than
having PMs and also people no longer need to give out their
e-mails and the xltronic address stays anon, to an extent,
as you need to be a member to view it.

hmm.. you're talking as if it would be possible for me to
use the gmail spamfilter on something outside of gmail..?
like I could apply it to my other mailbox... is that just me
reading it wrong?

"free forwarding address for all users"

DJ Ableton: too much work for me and would get me nothing in
exchange. :(

it is possible to forward your @xltronic.com addy to
somwhere else, once you've signed up tho.

drunken: but you could set up an xltronic addy, just for
cleaning purposes, then forward the clean e-mails to another
addy.

aesthetics: well, let me put it this way: if 20+ ppl emailed
me and said they're not gonna sign up unless they can choose
their own xltronic-alias, then i would consider it. but for
now, it's easier for me to use the same alias for users
everywhere.

haha, we'll see.. I already have three mailaddresses... I'm
just wondering how one sets up spamfilters.. I mean.. do I
need a program to do it, or can I do it if I have control
over my own mail services (like on a server/domain we own)?
I thought I set some spam filters up once, but I keep
getting this "OEM SOFTWARE!!!" stuff and those mails that
just don't make any sense at all.. mostly because they're
being sent from just random people with proper names.

drunken: it depends on what e-mail client you're running. if
it's totally web-based, and your provider does not run their
own spamfilter, then you need to subscribe to a 3rd party
solution, a "washingmachine".

if you're running ofline solutions (using pop/imap), like
Outlook etc, then i recommend you to download and install
3rd party software (or use the webbased "washingmachine"
solution above).

i've used Spamfighter for a couple of years now, which i
highly recommend, although my recent discover of the more
efficient gmail spam filter have put Spamfighter a bit
behind.

hmm.. ok.

I'm using an online thing called squirrelmail, but that's
just because I don't like having mail progs on my
computer... it's possible, though, so I think the webmail
thingie is just something that's installed for convenience,
and connects to the pop server instead of something
exclusive.

the thing is there's something in the server control panel
thing where I can set spam and antivirus settings for the
mailboxes, and I think I should be able to subscribe to some
external service there, but I have no idea how...

if you're calling it candypack you need to create some
graphics to go with it in that typical "vector" style with a
black man with a blinging gold tooth and a talkiebubble
thing saying "CANDYPACK?!"
