the only CD i ever returned to the shop EVER Merzbow - Merzbeat
The main reason was i didnt even know who merzbow where let alone that they were a noise band. It gave me a headache and i just didn't get it.
I've bought shed laods of other bad albums such as JJ72 - what a shit album, although i always fancied thier bass player and her bulbous head!

Haha, I've actually bought my first Merzbow release - a 2-cd remix album based on a single "song" of his (i.e. noise production) called Frog. It's got some pretty good interpretations, notably from Fennesz, Pita, House of Low Culture and others.
I still wouldn't pay money for his industrial releases en masse. He has no patience with his material, nor with his audience. If you want to reward his self-indulgence, send him money to his home address.

the worst bit was being completly oblivious to any such idea as releasing an album that is actually a cacophony of pure BUZZING. Like bottled migrane. If I'd have bought it today i prolly would have kept it if only to annoy the nieghbours with or to put off unwanted lady admirers!

i have merzbow's "pulse demon," and i like it. doesn't work well through headphones, though. it might not be music, but it's detailed, intense, cathartic and explosive sound. small doses can be very rewarding.
here's what got 1/5 at discogs, but at least i kept them. can't remember too many titles in my "sell back" pile. the second neu! album, the beta band compilation...
Chameleons, The - Why Call It Anything (classic band makes unworthy comeback album)
Daft Punk - Discovery (stupid stupid stupid)
Gentle People, The - Simply Faboo (kept it for "groovin' with you", otherwise terrible)
Leila - Feeling (can't remember what it sounds like, actually)
Mouse On Mars - Actionist Respoke (more irritating than merzbow)
Tranquility Bass - Beep!!! (lame remix after lame remix)
Tusken Raiders - The Motorbike Track (greedy ass fake bullshit)
Various - Auntie Aubrey's Excursions Beyond The Call Of Duty Part 2 (some of the lamest remixes at the expense of numerous killer remixes that should have been included)
Various - Badorb.com - Bless You (maybe the orb nadir)

I just remembered I have this absolutely hideous wank of an ep by some band called "Flashpoint" that I got free once when I ordered something from Atomic Pop around 6 or 7 years ago. I played it once and thought it was the worst steaming pile of fetid horseshit I'd ever heard. Thought I'd chucked it out but found it again a year or so ago.

What the hell is wrong with Neu! 2? It has Für Immer, and Für Immer is the greatest song!

to each their own, i thought it was boring, self-indulgent and too lo fi for it's own good. maybe not terrible, but not worth listening to. i'm sure there's no rational reason why i don't like it, though. i'll spin "fur immer" one last time when i get home today, just for you. self-indulgent is the worst criticism ever devised; a haven for the lazy who don't care to indulge.
where's the fucking umlaut on this computer...

Do you know the story behind the album? All the tracks in the middle are supposed to be silly and self-indulgent, they didn't have enough money to properly record anything else.
Side 2 of the record caused consternation at the time: Neu! had quite simply run out of money to finish recording the album, so side 2 is made up entirely of their previously released single "Neuschnee/Super", manipulated at various playback speeds on a recordplayer, or mangled in a cassette recorder. Critics at the time dismissed this as a cheap gimmick and a rip-off. Whilst it was indeed an experiment born of desperation and necessity, it was entirely in keeping with Neu's pop art aesthetics, taking a 'ready-made' sound object and re-presenting it with a series of stylized manipulations, and also quite in keeping with the way Neu's music deconstructed and pared down the form of rock music. Dinger has since pointed to side 2 of this album as being a prototype of the now ubiquitous multiple 'remixes' which typically accompany any pop single release.
Very cute.

i didn't know that they did that because they ran out of money. i think they should have saved their money and spent it on the third album. ach, jetzt ist es zu spat.
still can't find the umlaut, too little time to look...
