WORST APHEX ALBUM

Classics is not my style. I definitly dont like repetitive
boring 4/4 beats, I never been into that kinda stuff,
Caustic Window and AB3 got some nice tracks but most of the
stuff on those releases is pretty boring.

DRUKQS is his best release imo (SAW2, ICBYD, RDJ album is
also my favourites).

hmm..seems like it is becomming a battle b/w his hardcore
acid phase and his later IDM phase...personally I like both
of these and most of my collection gets plenty of
airing..though it's got some excellent tracks on the 2nd
disc...SAWII is my least favourite..

So there is someone else who gets Drukqs.

who "gets" drukqs? was that meant to sound patronising?

i love drukqs. Granted, not every track on it is a
masterpiece, but as a whole it's great. I enjoy the simple
piano and harmonium pieces as much as the harsh drill 'n
bass. It's definitely not his worst album, tho i haven't
heard every one of his releases so i can't compare
everything.

"SOSW", MFM, ENT the worst(not bad)
"SAW1", "Caustic Window" medium
"RDJ", "Drukqs", "Classics" subtop
"ICBYD" and "SAW2" the best
(IMHO)

HUGE Drukqs fan right here, my fave... ahem... IDM album
ever. Not very revolutionary or fresh, but the tracks are
just so HUGE, or something. Vordhosbn, CockVer10,
Ziggomatic, O Switch, Taking Control, Mt St Michaels... just
full of sounds, never standing still. Great stuff. And most
of the piano stuff is great.

The useless shit like Gwarek, Bit, Lornaderek, Qkthr (yes, I
hate it) has to go, though.

In my mind, Windowlicker is the worst Aphex Twin album... it
just seems like he didn't care about it very much, and the
result shows.

But from the given list, Classics.

i dont have (yet) AB3 or melodies from mars...neither AB4 or
the HAB series...so It wouldnt be honest if I voted here.
I have:
saw I
sosw
saw II
classics
caustic compilation
icbyd
singles collection 51/13
rdj
girl boy ep
come to daddy
windowlicker
2 remixes by afx
drucks

the 2 remixes by afx is my less favourite

i would say SAW 1. i think it's an overrated album. boring
stuff.

in my listening experience classics is my least favorite.
saw 2 is my favorite with surfing on sine waves following
close behind. I can't believe someone would chose classics
over surfingonsinewaves but it just goes to show that
everyone takes something different from a musical piece.

i'd say surfing on sine waves or the caustic windows
compilation.

windowlicker, the track, is a fantastic track, which merges
all his elements together - beautiful.

Be gone Foul Thread...!!!...

(altho MnRich is probably my least fave..)...

Seems like a lot of phans aren't so much into his older
stuff.... odd, that's where he got his rep from...without
them, they'd be no drukqs, no Windowlicker etc...

I guess I can do Least Remarkable :-)

I guess I'd say AB1. It has some excellent stuff on it but
two are on Classic's, and I got Classics before AB so to me
AB is like only having two tracks.

And I know that Analogue Bubblebath isn't on the list we
where supposed to pick from but I cant pick any of those to
be his least remarkable or ... gasp ... worst!

Ab3 just does nothing for me. the soudn quality is poor,
half of it is filling. classics isnt to great either. Saw 1
has its charm. SAW II is BRILLIANT! Drukqs. i found it to be
rather good, but with a lot of bollox in it. it should be
half as long.
the rest of aphex, is just good. real good.

offline artemis from Ghent (Belgium) on 2002-03-02 18:42 [#00109005]

Ahum! Classics is to me one of his greatest releases. Many
people don't like it because it is too brutal. When i had
bought it first, i really hate it. It took more than a year
to understand the music: the noise is fucking genouis. It's
my favourite AFX-release now.

offline DirtyPriest from Copenhagen (Denmark) on 2002-03-02 18:45 [#00109008]
Points: 5499 Status: Lurker

Its just, the later aphex albums really have that sound, but
classics souds like any other techno bollox!! its ok, yes,
but not revelutionary. for me, they are interesting, as
seeing how the artist evolves, from the classics crap, into
the stuff that really rox the sox. Windowlicker is great!
what are you guys talking about.

Consider this.... if aphex thinks classics is great, why
doesnt he make stuff like it anymore?

offline artemis from Ghent (Belgium) on 2002-03-02 18:53 [#00109016]
Points: 667 Status: Lurker

Diertypriest, classics is TOTALLY apart as any other techno
bollox. It was 10 year ago definitely very very very
revolutionary.

I guess you have a point there actually........ hmm. its
just sounds so primitive...
