campfire headphase

A fucking wonderful little album, I like it way more than
Geogaddi. The little guitar textureflourishes are so
welcome, I didn't expect that.

i like tridenti's new avatar. but that aint the
topic....yeah, campfire headphase is a bit of a
disappointment after my first listen, too straight, way too
clear production, too many guitars, not enough crispy
synthlines. its like they got older and become parents or
sth ; )
so far, aint thinking of it as a progress, but just a take
in a different direction. still, there's time...

I do think that if it wasn't BoC who made it, I'd be a lot
less positive or open minded about the music; it is a bit
easy-listening in places, a bit new agey. But it's still a
nice listen. :-)

chris cornell and dave grohl were grafted together to
produce a completely different and yet oddly the same chrave
gronell who is resonsible for the last 2 foos albums and the
fucking piece of wank that chris bothered to release for no
fucking reason at all other than he had already signed a
fucking contract saying he would release a piece of wank in
par with the wank the the foo fighters might release in the
near future. and to be fair this fucking object did exactly
what was said on the contract.

and superunknown is at least as good as nevermind. sorry for
stupidly obvious comparison.

now look here, its not my fault beverly hills 90210 is on
tv. and 15 years later i still can't make my mind up who i'd
rather shag, the blonde one, the geeky one, or shannon
doherty. well, not shannon because she has a different face
but that's in retrospect so that's cheating. and she does
that other program now, that weird witches program with
ironicly those other 2 dave grohl lookalikes who are quite
attractive. whats it called? yeah anyway that. but i
digress, no fucking way would i touch with a 10 foot poll
tori 'i'm not in this just becaue of my father' spelling.
i've seen better looking sheep. mind you, i have seen good
looking sheep. ok bad comparison. but you know what i'm
saying.

i like it but i feel like 1 or 2 of the 4-5 minute tracks
could be removed and replaced with some of that "paranoid"
BoC from days past. It needs to be a bit longer and a bit
more varied, but the good moments are quite damn good. Other
than that, the main complaint I have is the LACK OF SAMPLES.
It's like that last Godspeed album... removing all the vocal
work takes away half of the feel they have going for them.
The music is still good on it's own, but it doesn't pull me
in with the same power without those little interesting
snippets peppered throughout.

Peacock, 84 pontiac, constants are changing (which should
have been developed into something bigger), dayvan cowboy
and the like are quite good... some of the interludes are so
nondescript though. Of course, BoC is always something that
has to gradually seep into me, and this album is no
different. I just don't think it'll seep quite as deep as
any of the others.

Points: 72 Status: Lurker | Followup to MongoloidBaby: #01720854

yeah, mongoloidbaby, exactly...you said mostly all of what i
wanted to say. but still, more noise from me ; )

listened to it a few times more...got me a bit, but im sure
it will definitely NOT touch me as deep as mhtrtc or geo.
lack of disturbing samples, hell yeah! lack of psychedelia,
hell fucking yeah! i have a big trouble standing this
easylistening boards of canada! yes, they had 'nice' tunes
before, but never shallow. here, there are a few...dont know
the names, sure some will recognize them. and dont get me
started about blink 182 ballad kinda start of 'hey saturday
sun'!!! it would've been way better if they'd started with
that synth line that came up next, and then got in with a
guitar. so far only true boc i see/hear in here is in
'sherbert head' (amazing), a bit of 'slow this bird down'
and in the first one, which is good as all the previous
first ones were. next, boring beats...disappointment, big.

remember 'gyroscope' with its fullness, strength, retained
explosiveness, strange beat? and 'dawn chorus' with that
seawave sample, enchanted atmosphere, detuned synth
lines?..and 'the beach at red point' , 'alpha and
omega'...and thats just from geogaddi. here, theres not a
single thing besides those few i mentioned before...way to
easy fucking music.

im really harsch, i know, but they've given me strong reason
with their earlier work. if mhtrtc worths 9, and geo 8, dont
think this one can earn more than 3. later, a lot later, it
maybe could get 4 or 5, tops.

sounds like it'll be a lot more 'accessible' to the
unitiated

the guitars! awsome
i heard they got van halen to play on 2 of the tracks, dont
know which ones though
regardless, this is an excellent endorsement for the
instrument

the beats are all similar, slower groovier wicked
and the tracks sound 'emptier', less full or crowded or
claustrophobic, more open etc and overall simpler, at least
on first listen
and the whole thing is more positive... maybe only one
possibly dark track

am i the only one who thinks the drums in Dayvan Cowboy
sound like four tet

and Sherbert Head is the best and only musical
interpretation of an icecream headache ive ever heard
reminds me of Iced Cooley, that earlier track that sounded
like ice cream (trucks)

i cant fucking wait to buy this on CD

The guitars have hints of MBV about them, with a focus on
the degraded and warped BoC sound. People have been saying
BoC should do more guitar since Geogaddi and now they have.
And its great.

the release is hardly a step forward

considering the amount of time between geogaddi and this
one

it sounds like outtakes from geogaddi with some cliche lo fi
acoustic guitar samples meandering the sequencer
