another question to put this topic back in track :

Does aphex twin love all other IDM but his own ?

it would be hard to love idm and hate everything by
aphex twin indeed... because he has a dozen of different
genres.

...unless you hate his persona, the way he works or
something like that, this bringing you to dislike/avoid
everything related to him...

If you like IDM/braindance/electronica/whatjewcallit then
you have to like Aphex 'cause he influenced all dat shit.

For instance, when I first heard Boards of Canada in '98, I
thought :
"S'okay, sounds a bit like "I care because you do".

I can understand that for a neophyte, RDJ music could be
challenging, but I think that his oeuvrre is mostly
marrvelous.

oh gosh, don't listen to tolstoyed - if there ever was a
"pothead" or "stoner dude", it was him.

he's so high most of the time, you could call him
permanently psychotic.

anyway - I do like some of Aphex' tracks, but most of it
seems utterly boring to me. and when people go on and on
about his melodies, I really don't get it. most of his
melodies seem pretty bland to me.

bland analords

so, just about NOBODY here really hates aphex.

I suppose he's like the grandaddy of all this kinda music,
and you can't hate a cheery old man like that.

The guys in ae were doing at around the same time as aphex
twin. Also if you listen to the trainer by plaid (that was
happening at the same time as the black dog i think), which
has alot of stuff from the early ninties on it too. You will
realise that aphex isn't really the granddaddy of anything,
rather the most well known of all of them.

I think i will always love a large majority of aphex's work.
He is not my fave artist in this field i suppose but faves
are kind of stupid, don't you think?

faves are stupid? isnt it just what suits your taste the
most, or what music/melodies evoke a strong feeling within
you?

my first aphex experience was listening to blue calx in my
headphones, on my own in the middle of the night in my
room... it stirred something inside me.. as if something
awoke, i think it was emotion and inspiration, which to me
signalled the artist as some sort of genius, as i had never
experienced music in that way before.

i think i have upmost respect for rdj for doing that, and as
a result i explored more and more of his music - i kept
getting similarly rewarding experiences.

i hope that anyone with a keen interest in music, let alone
idm, wouldnt hate his music (not necessarily him!). i think
he's a pioneer in his own right.. imagine trying to make saw
85-92, at the age of 17-odd with no pc software trickery
etc.. and to maintain that consistently.. i just admire him
and his music a lot. i'd happily claim him to be musical
genius in fact.. i dont think his music is bound by time.

untilted = music of the dog ass
if you can listen to it, you have gone deaf and / or lost
all aural sensibility.

it doesn't matter that peoiple were doing what he did before
him, the fact that he is the most popular and that he was
the "king" of the scene when it was beggining makes him the
grandaddy of idm,

it IS a popularity contest when it comes to these things
