Drukqs is shit, even RDJ hates it, I heard he only released
it to fulfill contractual obligations with warp which is why
it sounds like a collection of disjointed half finished
demos, because thats essentially what it is.

Points: 9958 Status: Lurker | Followup to soundguy: #01621235

Yeah. I don't understand what everybody always raves about.
The last great thing he ever released was windowlicker.

Why would he be inspired to write good music if he's
guaranteed a sale reguardless of what he puts out.
Practically the only reason he does music now is for the
money, anyway.

offline soundguy from London (United Kingdom) on 2005-06-03 04:10 [#01621249]
Points: 734 Status: Regular | Followup to Taxidermist: #01621241

Agreed, Windowlicker was an excellent track and only served
to make Drukqs an even bigger disapointment than it might
have been otherwise.

Melodies from Mars, which ironically is also a collection of
half finished demos is better than Drukqs IMO, he should
have released a proper version of that instead.

drukqs is not shit, it's one of the best albums of this
decade.

Or just released a couple ep's. Most of the piano parts were
decent, but they were thrown off by the half assed drill n
bass.

If he had just maybe, released a four track single with
taking control, 54 cymuru beats and a couple others, then
released an ep of just the paino bits within a couple of
months of eachother, he probly would have been able to keep
some peoples respect, not to mention made just as much
money, and still fullfilled as much of his contract to warp
(in contracts, one cd is one cd, reguardless of whether or
not its a single, ep, full length or half a double length).

yeah, agreed again, the piano pieces were nice on Drukqs and
the drill n bass stuff was rubbish, it would have made a
pretty good couple of e.p.s but as a double album it sucks
donkey balls.

Revolutions is not one of Jean Michel Jarre's best.
"Zoolook"
is bloody amazing. Also, I can't stand it when people claim
he is cheesy. Yes, he has done a LOT of cheesy tracks, but
some of his early work is brilliant and very much ahead of
the times. Zoolook uses sampling in a way which was never
seen before, and it's still listenable 20 years on.

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2005-06-03 17:16 [#01622190]
Points: 27795 Status: Regular

i'd put zolook and revolutions right at the bottom of the
pile. oxygene, equinox, & magnetic fields are faultless,
rendez-vous is pretty good, and even oxygene 7-13 sounds
great.

Points: 6796 Status: Lurker | Followup to CS2x: #01622189

I wanted to put Zoolook up there, but as it is more like an
EP to me, I chose Revolutions.

It's my list, not yours.

I'm glad to see someone else who likes Oxygene 7-13. I don't
understand it's unpopularity. Yes, it doesn't deviate very
much from the original Oxygene's formula, but I don't care
because it sounds so beautiful. The first time I heard
Oxygene7 drop into the powerful ambient sequence after the
rainfall was amazing. :)

Heh... you and I see the same on the daft punk issue. We can
be brothers.

In sides is also a good call, but I can't bring myself to
listen to orbital anymore (too much orbital)

Yeah, and Aero was just a series of rehashes in 5.1. I like
the versions of the tracks in Metamorphosis he performed (or
mimed) at the concert in Eqypt though; they sounded darker
and more inventive. Or maybe I was imagining it due to the
visual aspect of the concert.

Sessions2000 was a fairly random release...Just some odd
chillout jazz stuff. I don't know what he's doing.

Yes, I got that album from the french amazon site as soon as
it was announced in the now-closed Jarre.net website. It
never got a general release, did it? I quite liked the
impressionistic piano track and the title track, as well as
the first one with those baroque strings.

the souvenir of China tracks on Jarre's Concert in China
vol.2 album has grown on me a lot actually since _gvalrek_
introduced me to it. I'm quietly impressed.
