He he, I was about to mention your username.
Bloody classic game, probably my favourite platformer, bar some of the castlevanias. It might interest you to know it was recently remade for the gameboy advance (officially licenced and released too, not a home project!).
Should be able to pick both the console and the game up cheap in a second hand store.

It's looking like you'll be able to download older Nintendo games. NES, SNES, N64, etc, store them on one of the flash cards. I like the idea of having the entire Nintendo library in that little box. But... I mean, I think we all have CD-Rs full of every Rom ever anyway. And I wonder what they'll charge.

Pocket gaming
In an attempt to grab some of the media attention surrounding Microsoft and Sony's new consoles, Nintendo talked up its accomplishments in the world of gaming.
In a event packed with fans at the Kodak Theater on Hollywood Boulevard, the Japanese games giant emphasised how it "owned the portable gaming space".
The new GameBoy will fit in the tightest jeans, Nintendo promises
Nintendo surprised many by unveiling a new version of its best-selling GameBoy, called the GameBoy Micro, due to go on sale in the autumn.
The tiny game player is just slightly bigger than an iPod Mini, but two-thirds the weight.
"No matter how tight your jeans are, the GameBoy Micro will fit in them," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing.
"This is another morphing of the GameBoy for the fashion-conscious consumer."

"The PSP is shit, really. Enjoy your square button and little shit discs. "
Buttons work perfectly-already more "little shit discs" with games on them than the DS has after months on the market- and you can carry your entire porn collection in your pocket.
Granted you can't play a virtual nose-picking game with a stylus a-la the DS, but I can control I-tunes with it wirelessly from anywhere in my house or yard and soon to be many more wonderful apps including a DS emulator and VOIP.
DS is for chicks and the 12 and under crowd.

As convincing as this argument is, I feel it my duty to tell you to do a bong hit and chill the fuck out.
Those cute little discs are minidvd's- cam corders use them w/o the case. The encription is already cracked so it is only a matter of time before I am burning my own games or copying them and playing them from memory stick.
Besides- Nintendo is the king of proprietary media- they still use cartriges for christ sake!

Cartridges are the absolute best for a portable system. No load time, and plenty of protection.
Now lets try mini-dvds - oh wait I can't try it because they are all scratched to hell from being in my pocket.

That's why they are packaged in the cases. If you can't take better care of your toys, you really shouldn't have a fine machine like a PSP.

Its just not a good 'portable' device imo. Huge screen can get easily scratched, mini dvds format (so I'd have to re-buy all my movies in a new format to watch them on a tiny screen/tiny speakers/headphones when compared to my home theatre).
For such a 'fine machine', sounds like I'll need something half the size of a laptop carrying case for everything to make sure I have all the proper equipment and padding to ensure that my square button works for the next 3 years.

Nintendo has top notch gameplay with sufficient graphics.
Sony feels it needs to crank up system specs and introduce systems that have a zillion other non-game functions in order to compensate for their soulless shittiness.

Yes that big screen sure is a hinderance! And Sony has no experience in making durable portable devices- teh
You can rip your current dvd's and watch them on it- no need to buy new.
The PSP already has more games than the DS and It's just a matter of time before they port all the ps1&2 games for it- there is already a gamboy advance emulator for it and I'm sure a DS and even Game Cube one is within the realm of possibilities.
Sony cranked up the specks to beat Nintendo at thier own game and since there is no third party support for the DS- it will wither on the vine.

Sony bumped up the specs because they can and it's expected of them. They'll deliver the games to back it up, and that's what it's all about. They're going to be very graphically powerful, might as well have your cake and eat it to.
And while it's popular to diss Sony for being a big corporation, the reality is, their first party developers have been more creative and brave than Nintendo's, just look at their 3 big platformer series compared to Mario Sunshine. Or Ico or God of War compared to Wind Waker. Sony owns Nintendo, creatively.
Tridenti- somebody from the IGN Revolution forums photoshopped that groovy NES-Revolution. It's a bit of a shitty touchup but a great idea!

I'm personally getting very tired of Mario, Zelda, and Metroid rehashes. Sony had the good sense 5 years ago to make NEW franchises and not keep milking Spyro, Crash, Tomb Raider and Jumping Flash, and look at them now.

Innovation is overrated, it's just one minor part of the creative equation. Only a handful of games innovate each year. Sony doesn't need to invent new genres to be innovative and fresh. The key to Sony's creativity is... creativity. Sly Cooper has a fresh, excellent and EDGY presentation that sets it apart from other platformers, it's definitely a real artistic triumph. Nintendo needs to play these games, watch the cut scenes and learn from Insomniac and Naughty Dog, it would greatly improve their dry, aging product. Sly also has elements of stealth, which is something new for that kind of game.
Ratchet and Clank 4... the new one is incorporating elements of real-time strategy games and squad combat. That's something new for mascot platformers. R&C3 had online multiplayer and co-op, which was also a first for platform gaming. R&C games have always been full of awesome shit.
ICO- 'nuff said here. There's really no other experience quite like ICO. Whereas in Zelda, you're still going from dungeon to dungeon collecting the same things you were collecting in 1986. Only now, the dungeons are less challenging and less numerous.
Killzone- while Nintendo's going to be depending on Mario 45 and Metroid 16 for the Revolution launch, Sony's going with a new franchise that was just introduced in late 2004. Killzone 2 has been the talk of E3 so far.
(Btw I'm a Killzone fanboy, loved it so much, great potential and great art... again... Sony covering all the bases, from the cutesy platformers to the gritty first person shooters)
Sony should hire me on as a PR guy.

It's strange how people are saying that Nintendo isn't in the race or is not a serious contender. As if the whole point of the busniess is to out sell your competiters. Of course you want to maximize profit but does that mean you must try to conquer everything in sight? I doesn't really matter anyway. Between all these systems, they'll be something for everyone.
