1 demo sent, 1 response. negative. the guy enjoyed it and
thought it was worth getting signed but didnt feel it was
completley suited to the label he ran, he suggested places
to send it off to but i never bothered, and that was about a
year ago.

you're the one proclaiming the age ranges on music making,
so YOU prove me wrong.

the "sound on sound" magazine is kind of fun to read if you
want to send out demos.

they have a "demo doctor" section, in which a few people
from "the industry" say what they think of demos readers can
send in.

they're mostly not people who are in that part of the record
industry that does a lot with electronica, but they still
have some good things to say.

one of the things they say in the last issue is how they
like it more when a demo looks as simple as possible - no
fancy homemade covers, just a slip of paper with your
personal info.

they say that when the cover looks good the music has a
higher chance of being relatively disappointing and they'd
also rather have the feeling the musician spent most of his
time on his music rather than on the look of the demo.

cdr demo. contact information. nothing more. thats all thats
necessary.

there are definitely labels out there that want a bio or
other releases that youve done or anything like that. they
want to know, without listening to your music, that you are
good. not all are like this though, and id advise against
it. it just looks pompous.

just send some cdrs out and hope for the best. if no dice,
keep at it. little more to it than that.

i sent 1 demo a couple of years ago. no replies. i have
gotten some offers from people at small "labels" that have
discovered my music via the web.

Donna Summer's advice was to send out as many demos as
possible - he says that people tend to give eachother demos,
as in: this is not exactly right for my label, but maybe
that other label might like it.

he said you'd be surprised how much gets passed along.

I'm preparing one :)

Do I have to give some kind of a comprehensive list of the
equipment used or are they interested in just hearin the
fucking music?

And I'm not referring to FM magazine.

I sent out a batch of demos to lables a couple of years
back.

I got a few responses, people asked to hear more,
recommended other labels to send it to, etc.

I'll probably pic the 4 strongest tracks off my next full cd
and send them out as a demo. My new music is sooooo much
better than my old stuff IMO.

where can all these tracks be heard? would be interested in
hearing them. have some rather demented hip hop in the works
here.

They're quite old tracks (about 1 year old), but you can
hear Green Numeral (I'm not keen on) and Solitaire (Which I
like) here. Don't bother with "Soar", the UL
messed up and it's only the first 50 seconds or so (bloody
zebox won't let me delete it either!)

No home net access and the way work have the network set up,
I can't UL my new tracks :-( I'm going to have to take some
to a mates house and UL some new ones. I also need to get
round to sorting out a real page, rather than that zebox
one.

None of those tracks were on the first demo. You should be
able to find some of my older stuff on Soulseek if you're
interested.

incidentally, hrvatski is selling bundles of demos that were
sent to him (and mostly never listened to i think) at his
site:

mimaroglu

wouldn't it be fun to buy your very own demo back from
hrvatski?

I'd love to upload some music, but I don't know any sites
where I can upload more than a few short mp3s for free. Can
anyone help?

I know, 1000 cds sounded way to much to me, but my friend
(who is basically doing everything for me apart from the
music or album cover) seemed to think it was best.
Considering he has been involved with releases in the past,
I just go along with it.

The album is going to be a mixture between dark ambient
music and somewhat Plaid like melodically-driven tracks. I
make sure all sounds/beats are designed from the ground
up-no presets here...I imagine it's the same for the rest of
you who make music!

I always keep saying to myself that I should send out demos.
and I'm always planning on sending demos. but I just can't
be arsed really. I've thought allot about sending demos the
last couple of months or so. because I'm more confident
about my music now. and lots of people tell me that I should
send out a couple of demos. I really want to, but I'm very
lazy :-) I'd rather link them to my mp3 page but most labels
don't accept that. and I honestly don't understand why. it's
so much easier I think.

as controversial as your avatar is, i must mention that it
just synched up incredibly well to the outro to dr. geek by
the melvins.

The fact that it's a hassle and cost for you to burn them to
CD and then mail it out, shows you have some faith in the
music and that there is some (however slight) chance of
getting signed. With mp3 sites, they'd probably be inundated
with demos. That said, there are some labels that will
listen to online mp3s, like V/vm.
