I just haven't gotten my energy level up this semester yet,
so am procrastinating heavily. And yes I'm ridiculously
talkative and energetic in real life.. ummmmm as soon as my
mp3 toy comes on, this computer will be off very often.
When I get a new place next semester, for the first month I
won't let myself have internet access, and then decide
whether to get it. I really perform only one productive
action per 500 actions on-line. It's fucking miserable.

every break I've had from the internet is great. And school
has a fast connection with wireless all over campus, so if I
need software upgrades or something I can just lug it over
there.

It has the potential to realllly improve my life. You could
argue that the laziness is in my nature and the internet is
just a symptom, but I think the internet just by nature, all
the interesting BS everywhere, really is an insane catalyst
for procrastination.

are you using the trunk builds?

i've been scared to install them since they merged aviary.
what are the significant changes that you've noticed?

(besides instability)

Well I gave a half-ass report.. truth is I use debian linux,
and it has a very convenient updating tool.. in any case the
mistake may have been theirs and not mozilla's. also, since
I just sort of blindly update, I don't even know the
features =(

I actually use mouse gestures these days.. and now and then
even that thing where you click on non-tab space in the tab
bar (tibgirl?) and get a new tab..

gentoo is the cat's meow. portage man, portage.

ask fleetmouse, he'll tell ya.

Points: 6049 Status: Lurker | Followup to epohs: #01462504

I have a real problem regarding gentoo; I released a program
on freshmeat some months ago (9!!), and each month I get a
bug report from a gentoo guy, usually speaking very rudely,
and every time the problem is they set some wacky inane
compiler flags, and they have no idea what they are doing so
I have to diagnose using random speculations and dartboards.
fuckers.

don't let one misguided dork ruin it for you.

the installation is a bit of a bear, unless you're very
familiar with linux (which i'm not really), but once it's up
and running i can hardly imagine it being nicer to manage,
and keep up to date.

i've still yet to try debian, so i'm pretty much speaking
out of my ass, but after trying suse a couple of times,
knoppix, and freebsd, i've got to say gentoo is my favorite
*nux flavor so far.

offline epohs from )C: on 2005-01-16 16:28 [#01462524]
Points: 17620 Status: Lurker

but yeah, gentoo really prides itself on being able to
custom compile all your system, so when you're not sure of
what you're doing you can really fuck shit up.

looks like you've run across someone who's not figured that
out yet.

offline sneakattack on 2005-01-16 16:31 [#01462528]
Points: 6049 Status: Lurker | Followup to epohs: #01462516

I've used linux ~10 years, and debian ~5. Debian gives me
everything I want, so there isn't much motivation to change.
Developer community is pretty cool as well.. and gentoo's
download source + compile package system is
badbadbadbadbadbadbad.. ANNdnndddd it wasn't just one dork,
it was many, and it was consistent -- IF user is rude and
bugs are due to fucked up system config THEN gentoo user.
And node I'm not being lame and blaming them, I'm talking
about weird errors like experimental compiler flags on
pre-release GCC which cause hardware accelerated openGL to
break. fuckers.
