i got the 4 cd's some months ago and i can easily say
they're awesome. my favorite is cd III. really emotional and
moving imo.

i heard that "watermusic" will be reissued shortly

I'm not saying it's not good music - just that the narrative
helps it find a wider audience. "any attention at all" is of
course an exaggeration.

Yeah it's a nice story, well not nice but you know what i
mean.
I have yet to comment on the (disintegrating) music though.

the first 10 minutes I heard this I liked it, then as I
listened longer I liked it less and less. In the end it
bored me so much I deleted it from my harddrive. It's just
goes on for far too long and makes me feel depressed.

i guess there are people like that, although i find it a bit
hard to imagine how one could listen to such a repetitive
track they wouldn't like the sound of, no matter what the
story behind it is..hmm

i already downloaded 4 albums by this guy (two of this
disintegrating series - just couldn't wait for cds :)

i very much agree with what is said in that pitchfork review
- if there is heaven this is how it would sound like!

That's funny, I thought it might be more in line with the
soundtrack to Dante's Inferno - Level 1

:-)

could be both, that is why it is so interesting :-)

so pleasant but so scary at the same time..

Its something that you need on in the background. Like most
ambient music, close listening tends to ruin the experience,
while when left on in the background, it lends to the
atmosphere, altering and strengthening your mood. Music like
this can be life changing in this reguard, and it makes it
all the more powerfull when it actually means something.
That is what makes music like this so powerfull.

hmm, i can listen to it focused and it sounds just as
awesome to me...i get completly melted :)

sure you can focus on repetitive music, it's the thing to do
to get the most of it. but it very much needs the right
frame of mind.

check out

john hudak - room with sky

if you're into basinski

it's not entirely the same kind of music. but it's eerie &
soothing at the same time too

BASINSKI, WILLIAM - Silent Night
Basinski's long anticipated followup to The
Disintegration Loops series. Elegant and
mind-numbingly good, what the world has been
waiting for. "Newest work by Basinski. Very
tranquil, somnolent ambient meditation, 60 min.
Composed using the Voyetra 8 synthesizer. In
clear plastic sleeve with ink jet printed folder
featuring a drawing by James Elaine."

anyone heard this one yet?

dlp 4 and 5 remind me of the music at the end of Lord of the
Rings. It's sad and sweet and haunting, like the end of an
epic journey.

this is the most relaxing music ever i think..no matter how
bad or stressed i feel, this always relaxes me totally. and
it's weird because it has that certain uncomfortable feel to
it at the same time..

they're pretty easy to fend off, except when in groups as
depicted above.

then the key is to move slowly and step away..

right now I'm finding this pretty god damned awesome!

the concept itself somehow redeems the (initial)
repetitiveness, and when you listen it isn't repetitive, so
it doesn't matter!
