i love serge gainsbourg, but it isn't something crazone
would like i guess. btw, i've got 3 releases by him...and an
remix album :)

here: I love electric bass guitars

the remix album was yawn... i'm the proud owner of a lovely
numbered boxset containing all his solo albums. comes with a
book too :)
i hope l'homme a la tete de chou and histoire de melody
nelson are in your collection!

hmm, i don't have any full albums...just compilations. bb
initials (or something like that) and vol. 2 and vol.3
compilations. plenty of nice tunes on those, but i don't
know what albums are they from.
if i ever spot those two you mentioned, i'll definitely get
them!

crazone, no electric guitars...well perhaps some, but not in
a classic sense.

oh, and i didn't think much of that remix album either...i
didn't give it a full listen yet...i was disappointed in
first few songs ive heard... i love howie b, and his remix
is probably my favourite on album.

I'm really into Grace Jones at the moment, Slave to the
Rhythm, Warm Leatherette, Pull up to the bumper, this
fabulous year long dub version of Private Life. That's
class, that's style, that's music (or maybe I have just
turned gay), however I'd rather listen to her than
Squarepusher and I'd rather eat ass than listen than that
fucking VS bollocks.

grace jones is very sweat and classical classy lady who
makes lovely vague songs in the past, I've got myself some
12"s to. I love her.

Tolstoyed; I'll add serge gainsbourg to my list

I'm glad we like Grace Jones in this thread, I thought it
was just me "having a phase".

I last had a Grace Jones phase 3 years ago, if I've got my
sums right I should be digging out my Wang Chung album in
six months time.

what matmos album and what serge gainsbourg album do I have
to hear to get a good impression of their works?

apperantly "l'homme a la tete de chou" and "histoire de
melody nelson" are the ones to check for gainsbourg.

as for matmos; "quasi object", "matmos" and "a chance to cut
is a chance to cure".

the topic's gone a bit off topic, but...
why go back to []< after listening to v.snares? because tom
has the most amazing sence of rhythm evarrr, whereas vsnares
just sits there going "hey! i can retrigger a beat! and hey
look! you can maybe even hear a synth!"

Right.

Squarepusher is to "2001: A Space Odyssey" what VSares is to
"Star Wars"

Both valid musicians/films - both working on differnent
levels though

*sorted!

I wish it was that simple. No, the endless arguments and
worthless comparisons will forever haunt us.

dunno

dont like vs, i decided not to get huge blabla when someone
told me that witboas was one of his best albums and that
last one (huge) was similar to it...

dunno

i think squarepusher is so good that this discussion has not
any sense, but thats just me... cause that topic, and the
other vs based, makes me think that im probably wrong...

Snares live is fucking awesome, so is squarepusher of
course, but here's the difference:

Squarepusher show is like a music conference with a bunch of
hipsters with their arms crossed nodding and drinking $6
beers while Tom blows our minds and gets drunk on stage.

VSnares show has some of that, but the front few rows are
like a hardcore show, or like a fucking dope jungle rave the
way they were 5 years ago, everyone just wiling the fuck
out.

Both are great performers, especially Tom when he's actually
playing Come on My Selector on the bass right in front of
you and your jaw fucking drops seeing that he can play that
bass like twice as fast as in the recording.
VSnares just gets so into the DJing and has this nasty grin
on his face and fucks with everyone and glitches out
everything to extremes and takes requests. He has crazy ass
hair, half of it looks just like hippy dreds, the other side
looks like he's been homeless for 20 years.

The difference is in the crowds, if you like to dance (like
you're selling nails). Which reminds me of when he played
that track and Jo Apps sang the opera bits live on the mic,
that may have been my favorite musical performance ever.
