is this film a case of "CGI porn"?
someone defined this term in a review of "Van Helsing" on IMdb - a film that almost solely consists of CGI scenes, the story (if any) crafted so that there can easily be jumped from one CGI scene to the other.

hehe i know, whats really funny is that they used 'from the director of Independance Day' at the end of the trailer as if it was some sort of classic.
The director hasn't made a good film in his life, he's on par with Paul Anderson.

I saw it an hour ago. Nobody dies in the movie, which is nice. Also, the ending where the circus actor survives by balancing on the tip of the empire state building was a bit too much. The cold chasing Donnie Darko on the library floor was so realistic, I swear, I heard people cry.

I was a bit dissapointed that Majorna was nowhere to be seen in the movie. I mean this disaster struck the whole northern hemisphere and they left out such an important part of Gothenburg. It's just unforgivable, even unrealistic. Totally blew reality out the window.

i went into this one with an open mind, hoping i'd be surprised. nope. totally blew.
best part was when that reporter was hit by flying debris from a truck, that made me laugh. i expected more running, screaming, and deaths (sure the body count was relatively high but i wanna see the count go up).
it really blew my mind when the old guy cut his rope to save the other two, that dennis fellow is like "jimmy, nooooooooooo!!" (or whatever his name was) so cheap, so lame. such a cliche.

i thought the film was really terriable, really bad. Its the first time in ages where ive really wanted to walk out thru half the film
its just another doomsday american film, like independence day, armageddon, deep impact, etc etc etc and is so predictable and shit, the cgi stuff is really good of course, but the whole storyline is crap...
and theres loads of anomaly... like the scientist predicts that the hurricanes will get worse and worse, and there will be these 3 great big storms destroying the world... but in the film the whole thing dissapears after about 1 day. Then theres this big ship conviniently parked on some 5th avenue which just happens to contain penniclin and killer wolves...
and jake. g's face just reminds me of his horny sister.
maybe i got some of my facts muddled up but i was half asleep when watching that film.

Three helicopters freeze in fucking MID-AIR, but some lame ass heros survive by burning up books in a library?! Come on! WTF?
Haha also, "We will have an ice age in 6-8 months." "Those aren't months, those are weeks." "Oh my God!"
Later, "Our calculations were incorrect, we will have an ice-age at the end of this week.."
"Oh my God."
"Um..are you sure it's a whole week? You know, we don't have much to do in this movie as it is. I'm not dying anyway, so I have to look at these calculations over and over in every scene.
"I heard no one is dying." "What? No one dies?" "No..Well that stupid cop does freeze to death, but he's got it coming for leaving the library after the climatologist's son warns him. I mean, he's a climatologist's son for fucks sake!"
"Yeah, come to think of it, he's black too, he's gotta go." "Yeah, those are the rules."

hahaha, whats really funny is that people actually go to see it expecting it to be good, come on, did you not see the trailers or know who was directing? Did Bruckheimer produce it? Wouldn't surprise me.

what was the purpose of the father going all the way to the library? how could he save his kid, apart from changing the weather? the whole movie mostly focused on the excursion of the father trying to reach and 'save' his kid, which was completely pointless, was it not?

Yes, but you have to remember the laws of physics and rules that apply to movies. Without the father actually at the son's location, it is impossible for the helicopters to go there. Once they were picked up, the rest of New York could be picked up, and every helicopter could land at the same time. Maybe they saved time by animating the landings like that or something.

I know people are entitled to their own opinions on films, and yes I have seen better films, but it wasn't half as bad as some of you make it out to be. The CGI was good, OK the story couldve been better....but come on, overall it wasn't bad. I just think its too easy for people these days to just write off a film, a piece of music, a book .... as utter shit, just because its not their thing! :S

yo haven't really said why you think it is as good as it is (except that the CGI is very good - which in no way would be enough for most people on this board at least) - most of the people who write it off do actually give a few good reasons.

I thought it was a fair representation of what could happen.
I thought the story was quite good, the acting good (Dennis Quaid is good, like the film Innerspace)...and the effects were stunning.
I think whether or not you like the film, it certainly makes you think about what could 'happen'.
Happy now Qrter? ;)
