Totally agree with that one. Was verrrrry disappointed with
the kid606 release I got (forget which one to be honest).

I think geogaddi's overrated also.

kid606 is inconsistent,.but i wouldn't say he was
overrated.
autechre are definitely overrated on this board. i probably
wouldn't have bothered listening to them if some many folks
hadn't worshipped them so much.
they're good but i get the idea i'm only scratching the
surface

Nobody's overrated if you love them. But I could never
really get into most Venetian Snares. A couple of his albums
and some miscellaneous tracks are fun, but I don't like most
of his more aggressive stuff.

(overrated is about group consensus not individual opinion
though, right?)

AphexTwin, sorry some of his older tracks sound dated now

I just don't get his music, it's an aesthetic thing I
guess..

Kid606, Max Tundra, Global Goon. Totally overrated.

Unbelievable that any of those chancers have a record deal
in the first place. It's like third-rate MP3.com IDM-by
numbers shite.

No, even shite would sound better.

i've heard much more interesting tracks by a lot of the demo
musicians on here.

I guess in some instances it’s a case of who you know
which gets you signed

WHAT?!? AE PLAID AFX?!, Might as well throw in WARP records
while you are at it. So if you think they are overrated who
do you think is the opposite? As in, who is rated equally to
what their skills are? This question makes no sense. If an
artist is "overrated" a certain negative connotation is
implied. When I say something is overrated I am saying that
it is not worth the praise that it is currently receiving,
that’s a negative statement. Maybe you havent got the
music yet, listen some more you'll see that their art is
worth a LOT of praise.
When I think of overrated artists I am thinking of fatboy
slim, moby, chemical brothers...prodigy

"When I say something is overrated I am saying that
it is not worth the praise that it is currently
receiving
"

My feelings exactly on Squarepusher and Venetian Snares.

in Global Goon's case, that's exactly what happened.

just listen to his tracks. they are 100% mediochre demo
material.

remember who said that first).

haha, this coming from the person who thought Global Goon
just sounded like an Aphex ripoff.

It's a pity you are too blinded by jealousy to see that
there is a lot to like about his music.

i became a fan of global goon's stuff even before learning
the story's surrounding his afx association......his stuff
is fun and captivating to me, if anything he’s underrated
in my book….iv always believed his music represents what
braindance is meant to be.

i'm with nac on this one - mike's music is awesome -
listening to bileous paths makes me glad to be alive and
makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up - and who
else could release 2cd's of tracks of odd tracks from early
90's onwards that sound so fresh and still dont sound out
of date

it's dumb to say someone like global goon is overrated..how
many people in the world have atually heard anything by
him?

even venetian snares and autechre aren't really well known
enough to be overrated. there simply isn't a big enough
proportion of fans:haters:hype
