Why not have a warning system so that once someone has
posted what the mods consider x amount of pointless posts in
a set amount of time either they aren't allowed to post new
topics for a while OR any topics have to be cleared by a mod
before they are posted on the board?

I think your silly rule is fundamentally antitheticall to
how a messageboard works. The people here are the message
board, not the topics.

Next you will try to legislate sarcasm and the board will
become a ghost town.

dude, what a nonsense reply. This is a music related mb, do
you really want to see anal-sex topics on here? People
should visit this place to discuss music and related
interesting subjects. There are A LOT of trolls who are just
creating senseless useless topics about nothing, it is
absolutely not how a mb does work. I can't believe there are
this amount of dorks (yes you are!) who wants to discuss
NOTHING. Talking about time-wasting....

oh, and 'antithetical'? good one.... how non-sense is the
way for a mb to work is beyond crap. (I lack the wit to
see the brilliance of that comment)

Erronous- you talk good English!

The purpose of a good MB in my mind is to bring like-minded
individuals together to discuss any topic thereby fostering
a diverse cultural environment where ideas will naturally
evolve. It is presciously the gestalt of this fuction that
makes xlt great.

I find off topic posts much less tedious than half wits
attempting to flame me.

What do you mean by filters? How do you set them up? Every
topic starter would classify his/her topic? And then the
reader could filter out threads which are classified as
"funny"? Would people stick to that? Anyway I don't think it
would work. Only make the MB more difficult to use.

for a message board, or any type of structured discussion to
work, it needs to be about something.. if it were
only chaos, the board would be populated by people
only willing to discuss nonsense and nothing else. the
posters then might not even like electronic music.
have you ever seen a non-subcategorised message board with
no official topic to discuss that actually "works"?
we need a sense of order, but because of that, certain
posters will always wish to rebel and post uselessness.
if there were no rules or order, most serious posters would
get tired of the anarchy and leave. even the trolls would
get annoyed and most likely leave because they had become so
much less "shocking" and their tomfoolery had become
commonplace.
i'd think that an "anarchy" board would serve no one but
those who have nothing that interests anyone to discuss.

dude... i see where your comin' from on both sides of the
matter.

i believe godataloss when he said, "The purpose of a good MB
in my mind is to bring like-minded individuals together to
discuss any topic thereby fostering a diverse cultural
environment where ideas will naturally evolve. It is
presciously the gestalt of this fuction that makes xlt
great."

makes sense to me, yay we all agree electronic music is our
favorite. great. now that we got that out of the way what
else makes you tick? yeah me too. awesome.

i hardly imagine tho that this mb would dive as bad as Q4Z2X
might think. look at it now. is it really so bad that it's
interfering with the rest of your life right now? mods seem
to be cool here.

why don't you then divide the effing board into music and
non music if it's such a godamn headache. i don't
understand why it's so hard to ignore these so called dumb
threads. freedom of choice. it's what you got. freedom
from choice it's what you want.

look at all the people on here i can't find anyone like you
guys around me in my town. i'd like to be able to continue
to hang out and just shoot the proverbial shit together and
connect with like minded human beings. on the level that we
agree in taste of music somewhat at least for the most part
it seems that we are the unique outer portion of the real
world. no two are a like here.

It's actually not a problem. If you don't like how we run or
setup this messageboard - then leave. There are lot of other
forums out there that might suit you better. That would
prolly be much better for both sides.

How can people join this mb and then tell us how to run it?
Isn't that weird? Why don't you download some free forum
software and set up your own board?

Thank you...

As Phobs pointed out earlier in the thread, this isn't about
"off topic" threads, we all accept people want to discuss
star wars, or martial arts or whatever with other MBers and
in moderation (no pun intended), that's fine. The thing
people dislike, and this thread is about, is nonsense
threads. Very few nonsense threads are genuinely amusing and
tend to range from sub-par Baron imitations to outright
random characters.
