in terms of country, there's too many to name, so ill go for
state, which would deffinately be aerosmith, followed
closely by house of pain (this is boston btw if you didnt
know that)

godspeed you black emperor!
neil young
manitoba
vsnares
akufen
broken social scene

and mr. iceland man -- you forgot gus gus!
also johann johannsson,
sugarcubes (unless you count that as bjork)

Neil Young would be a definite for Canada.
I'd also add Leonard Cohen and Gordon Lightfoot.

As for the UK... I cannae decide.

yeah i know. i just listed the biggest names.

i could've added gusgus cos they are well known. i don't
know jóhann jóhannsson's music.

also all the artists on thule records (the icelandic
electronic label) are great. trabant, biogen, worm is green,
ruxpin (also released on elektrolux), ilo, frank murder,
einoma.

other electronic artists to mention: bix, skurken, prince
valium, sk/um (=skurken+princevalium)

then there are all of those who have only released records
locally.

But Sloan is so gooooood. I have a weakspot for indie
rockers and great harmonies though. I dig The Flashing
Lights / Super Friends as well.

as much as i feel like i'd be most honest with myself if i
said Venetian Snares... it doesn't quite sound grand
enough... certainly not yet... Buck 65 and Tim Hecker are
both fantastic... i think canada has a lot of fantastic
artists... and well uh.... David Cronenberg is my answer...
despite the fact that he is not a musician...

i was gonna say buck65, but i don't know if he's really that
great in comparison to some other canadians. don't get me
wrong tho, he's among my favs for sure :D

well you know, he's pretty unique in some ways... and his
beats are quite ace... sometimes, i find his token
popularity a little annoying, but that's cause i'm a dirty
snob, and he deserves all the success he's had... he
deserves even more...
