i reckon eating shit's not too healthy
i read once tasting your morning pee, not the first bit,
because that's just crap, would be a good way to see how
your is doing, anybody familiar with that filosophy? i
havent done it but keep wondering about what they mean by it
actually.
anyhoo, the poo eating scene in this film i found genuinly
amusing the second time i saw the flick, that might be the
purpose like: i too enjoy these decadent scenes

I found it on SlSk. That'd be cool if i could host it
somewhere. We could have a XLtronic Movie week where every
week we could all download the same movie (as this is not
easy to find) and discuss it!

they showed this in a indie\foreign\avant grade theater near
my house but I wasn't able to go, Id like to see it,
hopefully itll be back there again. they also showed other
controversial films in the same series, they showed
Irreverisble (missed that too, anyone see that?)

yes i saw irreversible and hated it. everything about it
was crap. though it is memorable in a way for me. i ll
always remember the scene were a guy gets his face smashed
to bits by a person with a fire exstiguisher...its probably
one of the most graffic scenes i have ever seen... nothing
behind the movie at all....oh yeah belluci gets raped big
time too...the guys first film was better but i hated
irreversible, i actually prefered salo.

i just finished watching salo...pretty brave to make a film
like this in italy, must have been pretty shocking at that
time (no wonder he got killed). i haven't read the
book...the film was pretty medicore imo, i don't know if i'd
bother to watch it again, but im glad i did...

i got Salo on DVD the other day, not to see the film again,
but i was very interested in the Extra's;

- a diaporama with unseen set photographs,
- a documentary about the film (how they made certain scenes
(you can see Pasolini directing and talking with the actors)
+ an interview with Pasolini (why he made it etc.)
- another documentary 'salo's children' which is an
interview with 4 filmmakers (amongst which Gaspard Noe, who
made Irreversible) about their thoughts on the movie
- trailer

all very interesting

it would be highly appreciated if you (when you have time
ofcourse) could write some more about those extras...im very
interested in what those other dirsectors had to say about
it and that passolini comment about it.
in return i shall stop making fun of radiohead for at least
a month :)

if the americans would've made a film like this there would
be a shit storm (literally) in europe. but if the french
create an abnormal/sickening film to most it becomes
acceptable. anyways! i dont totally agree with ANUS. but
whos to say what is a disorder and whats not.

i think when an act is done if it damages most human beings
by mental or physical trauma thats when it starts to become
a disorder. i think a line should be drawn when human beings
lives are at stake. especially the obvious like physical
damage most importantly.

"if the americans would've made a film like this there would

be a shit storm (literally) in europe"

why?

offline ChildrenTalking from United States on 2004-03-05 08:25 [#01099810]

because we dont seem to learn the french language for one.
and by europe i include other continents as well, like
Africa and certain portions of the carribean, like the
British Virgin Islands. they're small, so they have an
inferiority complex. if we were to create such a
controversial film this would only spark something awful.
and believe me you DO NOT want to mess with the BVI's

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-03-05 08:30 [#01099813]

it doesn't make much sense to me at the moment - why would
language make any difference to how film is accepted?...(the
film is italian btw).

"and believe me you DO NOT want to mess with the BVI's "

dangerous people? :)

offline ChildrenTalking from United States on 2004-03-05 08:34 [#01099814]

i just personally dont find it acceptable regardless of what
country does it, but whatever comes out of either
spain/italy/france it automatically becomes something
'artsy' when in fact its just a grotesque film at that.
*goes back to eating his dingleberry cereal*

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-03-05 08:42 [#01099823]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

well it was based on literary work, so maybe that makes it a
bit more acceptable...but yes, i can see where you're
getting at, although i don't agree totally cuz there are
always exceptions, and there werent all that many films as
grotesque as this one...but yes is debateable.

buon apetit
