I love this little snippet in the faq:

Finally, buying music through Bleep means that you are
supporting the artists work, and in some cases you are
getting mp3’s encoded by the artists themselves.

WOW!! DOUBLEPLUSGOOD!!

ha.

according to the faq they use the LAME -alt-preset standard?
VBR setting and all mp3s are a minimum of 256kbps. but im
still going to get all my music as CD

That site is awful, that pecan ice cream color is nasty, and
that green for the font is nasty and the tiny ass buttons,
and the whole thing looks like it was put together all
hodgepodge like, ugh. But hey, as long as it works!

the play function is nice - how they show the track's
waveform loading instead of just a progressbar.

agreed.

they're using flash so they're play function is pretty
flexible.

nice job on the site!... could've done better on the price
though.

Haha.. that's what I was talking about. Doing it on SP
previews aren't as cheap though.. you can't pay for those
yet.

I just hope Warp won't remove this excellent song preview
function due to rips like these.. I've been listening to new
stuff at Bleep for the last two hours, and already bought a
shitload of old tracks.

surely flac copies of a ripped hab will be better quality
than any quality mp3?

offline cyanescens from Thailand on 2004-01-14 09:47 [#01032945]
Points: 96 Status: Regular

flac is lossless, so if their source is digital (like dat),
it should be bit-identical with the original recording (they
mention the possibility of 24-bit flacs).

16-bit, 44.1 khz flacs are identical to cd quality.

their mp3's sound very good though. should be more than good
enough if you're not an "audiophile" nutter.

but mp3s for every warp release are already available all
over the place. and if you're that bothered about quality
you'd probably own the release anyway. i don't think
they're offering anything new.

- you don't have to search high and low

- you don't have to wait for ages when the only guy on slsk
which has it is on modem

- it's not encoded with fucked up low quality mp3 encoders

- you don't have to be a fucking cheap
bastard

it's all good..

is there any wait for credit card clearance? or paypal
transfer? if not, they could get ripped off real bad.

I used it today. Downloaded stright away. No messing.
Download was fast (I'm on cable). Payed using my credit
card, as soon as I logged in it remembered my details from
the Warp site.

Encoded at 202kbps (VBR)

I'd imagine it's a licensing issue. That track may belong to
the record label that ae were on before warp (sorry, can't

No i did a straight rip off of vinyl through audacity. no
special gizmo's or anything of the sort. only thing is you
hear slight record pop obviously. although like i said, EP2
came out alot better than the ones i recorded. lots clearer.

the bleep habs are really quiet, and almost muffled. no
other way to describe them really.

muffled and distorted??

offline Intruder from Chicago (United States) on 2004-01-14 18:24 [#01033790]

I never said distorted. quiet and muffled. and if that is
how the original sounds, warp needs to get on ebay like
everyone else and plop down 100 bucks. i'm telling you, mine
HAB1 sounds fucking 10x better.

two things:

it's a really great idea, as everything is available, stuff
like gescom, afx, etc... & you can try some old warp stuff
just to taste. OK, it's brillant....

At the same time, it's an incredible insult to artists
like AFX & Gescom, who spent days & nights making fucking
good trax/production because some of their stuff don't
deserve a proper re-release!
sorry, just some MP3 (when you like music, MP3 is not
enough, just because of compression)

bleep is a fucking good idea but some proper re-releases on
cd/ep would be better for everyone.

also, i have 2 pc, one for internet, the other for
music/private stuff: if i buy a mp3, will the mp3 will be ok
with my both pc, or are they protected?
