[EUROCUP 2004]

group A:
Portugal-1st
Greece
Spain -2nd
Russia

group B:
France-2nd
England-1st
Switzerland
Croatia

group C:
Sweden-2nd
Bulgaria
Denmark
Italy-1st

group D:
Czech Rep-2nd
Latvia
Germany
Holland-1st

it's really tough to call this shit, cause i haven't really
been following the qualifying all that closely... group A is
going to be a fucking cracker.... i'm definitely going to
make a point of watching the Portugal-Spain game....

group b will be interesting too (in fact, because it's only
16 teams making it... every group in Euro is
interesting...)... i have a feeling that England will do
well this time around in the preliminary stages... i can
definitely see them beating out france, who seem to be on a
the decline still... group c is pretty wide open... i
wouldn't be surprised to see italy struggle some... but i
think they will go through... the choice of sweden for
second feels a bit arbitrary though... they have a good
team, if they perform, i will probably be right...

group d is tough to call... i'm inclined to pick Holland
over germany, simply because they have something to prove,
having missed the last world cup and all... but the czech
republic could easily steal either one of their spots...

-the teams who i think have a good chance of winning are
Italy, Portugal, and Spain... Italy: because a lot of their
players are really firing on all cylinders right now, and i
feel like they're due for a triumph of this size...
Portugal: cause it's their home turf (which can never be
underestimated), and they have a lot of talent... Spain:
because they should have made it farther in the world cup,
and i think they have a fantastic team... it's a shame they
won't have hierro in the back field, but i think they have
more than a few players who can replace him... is Luis
Enrique retired from international ball now too?

i like your thought about italy...but imo the truble are not
players, they're always the best there are, its simply their
way of playing that always bring their chances down. i mean
with buffon, nesta and cannavaro they have one of the
strongest defences but instead of attacking they're
defending way too much...and they have such a great
attack...imagine: totti, del piero, vieri, inzaghi...they
should be winning matches with at least 3 goals scored, but
they're always playing for only 1 goal
they have great football experts/managers who are doing
great tactics in their league, even attacking strategies,
but who ever is coaching the national squad always plays
defensive football...i trully hope they change their way of
playing this year!!!

i think Trappatoni fucked them over at the last world cup
with his piss-poor coaching... and i've just checked the
euro site and i find that he is still coaching them...
dammit... well my only hope is that he can realize that Del
Piero is itching to win a championship for this team, and he
just has to let him on to the bloody field...

well, if id be in position to select a team i'd put del
piero, totti, vieri and inzaghi in the game at the same
time...but that is not likely to happen...tho both, totti
and del piero can play in the midfield
but its not up to me :)

it's a good thing for Europe that strangely enough, Canada
isn't allowed in the Eurocup... otherwise, you'd all die!!

so when was the last time barca won at santiago bernabeu?

and imo kluivert is beeing forced to play too much - he
could use couple of matches on the bench...and perhaps
saviola could play some more. i have no idea what's their
problem, maybe they're playing to much like individuals
instead of playing like a team...but thats easy to say, i
hope they improve something soon.

funkmaster - die laughing? oh, and if i were you i'd send a
letter to uefa and ask why canada isnt allowed to play on
eurocup

finally i read something about that overal
standings between real and barca - it was in some magazine
today, about the last game at nou camp:

73rd match between these two at nou camp (in spanish
championship)
barca won 43 times - 15 times in the last 20 years
real won 17 times - including this last game

but it says nothing about matches played at santiago
bernabeu...

It strikes me as odd that they took 3 defenders from real
madrid while obviously they are some of the most crappy in
the liga. The stats say enough.

100% agree

I would have taken these defenders:

left:
del horno and juanfran

center:
cesar, marchena, juanito, garcia calvo

right:
puyol, salgado

not going...

but I understand why

he can play as a striker: but is he better than raul, torres
or morientes? NOT YET

he can play left wing, but we got vicente and luque both did
a great season

its sad, cos I would have taken one less defender and would
have brought reyes too, but...
