I don't think people who've never seen the movie yet should

I just felt upset at the end. It was an alright film but
they built it up too much. There was Joel Silver talking
about the bar being raised so high that no-one else would be
able to achieve that level for years. Well that proved to be
a lie. There was nothing that we hadn't seen in Matrix years
before. They'd just refined it. I was expecting some truly
awe inspiring imagery. Stuff that'd just blow your mind.
Nothing did. It was just nice computer graphics. Stuff that
Pixar bettered with Finding Nemo. That was imagery that blew
my mind. Those jellyfish? Spot on!

But back to The Matrix. It became a victim of it's own
success and hype. If they'd just kept quiet and said

"Yeah, we're doing two sequels. It's the continuation of
the first one. There'll be some cool scenes and we're going
to expand on the bullet-time stuff.
"

That would've been the truth.

Instead we got:

"THESE films are gonna CHANGE the way that ALL films are
gonna be made. We're gonna do stuff that no-one else will be
able to top! You're not gonna believe your eyes when this
film is released!
"

There was all the crap that Joel Silver talked about:

There's gonna be a load of fights using swords (false there
was a couple and even then not proper)

There's this ending fight at the end of Reloaded. It's in a
hall or mirrors type place. We've got bullet-time going mad
there as well as some new techniques. (Did I miss this?)

Everything will be explained. Revolutions will be the pay
off. Reloaded is the exposition. But revolutions will make
it all clear. (Ermmm, they explained yes but not properly.
The just said. This happens, no reason why.)

It's an alright film but let down by being hyped up too
much.
I still think they should've left it at the first film. That
had a better script too. Lots of subtleties in that.

These are just my opinions.

yes I agree giginger... although, I felt totally satisfied
with Reloaded... even after all the hype, I was still amazed
with it personally... but Revolutions was a bit of a let
down for me... still, it was cool, and the trilogy as a
whole kicks ass!

the love story stuff seemed kind of stupid too... love
stories in movies are great sometimes, but in a sci-fi
action movie like this I don't want it... it didn't fit!

Which i think is a must in movies if you want the story line
to be more accessable to viewers

Also (IMO) i don't consider 2 and 3 different. It was just
splitting up a long ass sequal. It picked up where the other
one left off and nicely wrapped up the series.

View it all as a whole. I think it works so well together!

I found it fantastic!

ok fucktards, fresh from MSWORD, here is my theory on the
matrix. my bad about the capital letters, its all ms word's
doing.

---

Dumb matrix theology 101: an informal guide to alternative
views on the wankfest that is the matrix triology

By mista sinicalyptical c-u-Next-Tuesday

(I’m not going to necessarily write this in complete
thoughts or sentences, so be warned)

so basically, the centrifugal idea here is that the true
“bad guys” in the matrix are the oracle and the
architect. I have surmised this by simply looking at one
simple thing about the movies: in the end, who truly gets
what they want? So let’s take a look at that:

Neo – sure he’s the people’s messiah or whatever, but
he really just wants to chill and hook up with trinity.
Bzzzt: sorry neo, you served someone else’s plans. The
only reason that he was running around like an idiot in
reloads and revs is because of the fucked up shit that agent
smith did, not because he could do anything to free people
from the tyrannical decency that is the matrix. so let’s
move on.

Agent smith – in M1, he just wanted to exist outside of
the matrix because he hates humans and their world. Fair
enough. He was programmed/told that this “THE ONE” guy
could fuck it all up, or maybe not even that, but he just
needed to stop him, get the zion mainframe codes, then once
zion/free humans are gone, there’s no need for agents in
the matrix because they can’t get out. BZZZZT. Sorry agent
smith, as you found out at the end of the first matrix, you
were just another pawn line neo in an overglorified cat and
mouse game meant to convince the few rebels who didn’t
accept the matrix that the machines reeeeeeeeally cared
about their little superhero game, so we send this
super-program after you to eliminate you. Oh and those codes
you needed to get? Yeah, they mattered oh so much because
they just decided to drill a big hole down to zion within
3-6 months of the first matrix. so essentially, he gets
pissed off and his assault on the matrix is the only thing
that can

offline Asche XL on 2003-11-12 15:54 [#00947817]
Points: 4241 Status: Lurker

so essentially, he gets pissed off and his assault on the
matrix is the only thing that can really destroy it, likely
because the machines never figured that another AI/machine
would come after it, as it was meant to be invincible to the
human mind. So he tries to destroy both all the humans and
the matrix in one fell swoop, and he ultimately fails. So he
doesn’t get what he wants.

Morpheus – kind of boring, instead of wanting to peel the
latex off of jada-pinkett-smith, like any self-respecting
sunglassed guy in a suave trenchcoat would want to do, he
genuinely wanted to free everyone. Welp, he didn’t.
BZZZZT.

Oracle/Architect: as was evidenced by the events of these
movies, they wanted THE ONE to do his quest thing and
basically reload the matrix, set everything back to normal,
and render himself completely inconsequential in the grand
scheme of things. They’re the ones who made this damn
matrix thing, and judging by what they both do, they get
what they want because the matrix exists at the end of revs
rather unscathed, with some supposed peace treaty shit
there.

Now I’ll go into the plotline, and please note, I’m not
some superdork who knows all the details, so when you want
to rebut my theory and go “WELL HOW DID NEO STOP THE
MACHINES IN THE REAL WORLD?” “WHY DO THE MACHINES NEED
NEO TO STOP SMITH?” I’m not going to give you
PHD-caliber answers that whet your every dorkulation, nope,
I’m just going to give you the gist of what I choose to
believe in, and if you wanna work out the details to support
or devalidate my theory, then go for it. Its likely that I
wont listen to you either way =D

So basically, the matrix 1 comes and goes, we all know what
happens. Right before he’s set to get deleted, a very
disgruntled agent smith is like “man, fuck this shit”
because his whole existence was exposed to be completely
meaningless. So he still hates all the humans, but now he
hates the machines. Ever the pragmatist, smith decides to
kill two birds with one stone: fuck up the matrix hardcore,
kill the huma

kill the humans, fuck up the machines game, extract his
revenge. This is why I love the character, I think he’s
the realest guy in the movies.. he doesn’t bullshit you at
all, and he gets quite witty by the end. Good job, hugo!
Career role for ya.

The oracle and architect have basically set up this “THE
ONE” game for the ~30-100 people of zion, or however many
there are, to convince them that they can actually do
something about the world at hand, which you realize by the
end of revs if you don’t get caught up in the perpetual
stream of bullshit that the oracle streams. Everything about
her is contrived: she’s set up to be a nice homely rotund
black lady who’s so nice that she always feeds you when
you stopped by. That wholesome image is perpetuated, and
nowhere in any of the 3 movies does any of our supposed
“heroes” question her even the slightest bit. Must be
the cookies. The architect, however, is set up as a morose
old white intellectual with an asshole complex, which makes
him seem like a “bad guy”, but in the end, ESPECIALLY
WHEN THE ORACLE AND ARCHITECT ARE CHILLIN IN THE MATRIX,
they’re on the same team, but set up with entirely
different images to make everyone believe that they’re not
in this together, but oh yes they are.

See, the quest they wanted neo to do would have resulted in
a circular path, a cycle if you will, and any computer dork
knows that computers “process” , or better yet
“think” in clock cycles. So essentially, this little
superhero game is an innocuous ploy that convinces humans
that they can make a difference, but in the end they really
cant and they set it up like they did something meaningful
and just go on again.

The only problem is that an AI/machine, smith, has decided
to fuck up the matrix. this never happened in the previous 5
or 6 one cycles, so this is an entirely new problem for them
which is actually problematic, as it could kill lots of
people, fuck up their power supply, etc.

Now I don’t want to sit here and meander into details as
to why they need neo to hoo

offline Asche XL on 2003-11-12 15:55 [#00947825]
Points: 4241 Status: Lurker

neo to hook up with smith so they can flush the energy
through him and “delete” him, but they do, and that’s
just the way that it is.

Merovingian is a cool guy.. I think, personally, he was like
the first or second one, he did the little oracle game, saw
absolutely nothing change (despite this issue being treated
like it’s the most amazing life-altering quest), he
managed to avoid deletion and hang out, and he’s spiteful
cuz he realized just how meaningless this giant quest the
oracle put him on was, he prolly lost his original
girlfriend (who knows if it was Persephone, either way,
I’d still hit that =) and every time the matrix reloads he
has to stave deletion and build up his little world full of
cronies, thugs, and ladies all over again. So when neo and
crew come through with their plan, he’s not that evil,
he’s just like “man fuck that hoe” thinking about the
oracle, and tries to stop neo, maybe even to help him cuz he
realizes that neo’s going to likely get his heroic wound
(the blindness) and lose his woman (trinity) when it’s all
said and done, and absolutely nothing will change in the
grand scheme of things.

So basically this whole thing goes on, smith is the only
real threat to the matrix, and thanks to orders/advice from
the oracle, neo does it, loses his girlfriend, gets blinded,
“dies” or whatever the hell happens to him at the end,
and the matrix ends up exactly like it was, maybe with a
coating of armor-all on it, and the oracle and architect
have what they want; a functioning matrix.

Realistically, if this theory is true, the morals/preaching
of the film tell you that machines are always going to win.
It’s kind of like driving a car. We humans think we’re
the master of the human/car tandem because we’re telling
it where to go, but in the end, the car is the thing
that’s going, you’re just in it for the ride.. maybe
that’s not the best, but in the end, humans will never
wholly be able to escape the world of machines that
they’ve created, even tho a few radicals think there’s a
chance, the

even tho a few radicals think there’s a chance, the
machines are always going to have us thinking that we’re
more free than we are.. I mean, shit anarchy comes tomorrow,
we’re burning computers and destroying a government, tell
me, are you going to multiply 388325432 x 4325434363 by hand
or with a calculator? They’re more convenient, and
realistically, getting deeper, the message is that the
technology we’ve created has trapped us in a “virtual
world” that we’ll never escape from, even when we try.
TVs, phones, computers, cars, these are all things that have
indelibly made our world what it is today, and even the best
efforts to re-humanize ourselves will fall short because the
monotonous, cyclic, and ultimately more practically
productive machines make a better world for us than we can
make for ourselves. The humans in the matrix’s world
destroyed the world trying to stop the machines, so the
machines hook them up with a virtual world that’s so much
better than the real world… so even when the crazy few,
the zionites or whoever, “succeed” in stopping agent
smith, stand up to the machines, strike a “truce” in the
end the matrix is still there, the architect and oracle are
buddy/buddy, and the whole peace thing is really a nice
idea, but over time, everyone will realize that the machines
are still calling the shots.

See one lsat thing, I think there’s much symbolism with
the architect and oracle being in the last scene of
revolutions. If you didn’t catch the obvious hints that
they’ve been in cahoots since day one (the father/mother
of the matrix thing from reloads), showing them together at
the end solidifies the fact that they’re in this together,
set up as opposite prophets: the oracle is good (the nice
homely black grandma who feeds you, I mean, why would she
lie to you? She’s so nice, and look, those cookies are
delicious) and the architect is bad (you have no choices,
you’re going to do this, hope is pathetic, monotony,
destiny, and everything will win) and realistically
they’re both right, as when you be

offline Asche XL on 2003-11-12 15:58 [#00947837]

realistically they’re both right, as when you believe what
they say, if you do what one says or the other, you still
end up in the same damn exact spot: where you started. A
cycle. Which is how machines think, operate, and go about
their lives. so by showing htem both together at the end,
talking, you see that realistically, they both were out for
the same cause, but had different methods of doing so with
the humans… in the end, it’s just a giant cycle, and no
matter how great you think an individual human mind can be
in the name of restoring humanity to the world: we simply
have changed the world forever with machines, and they’re
always going to win out because we simply depend on them too
much when compared to how we were, say, 300 years ago.

So that’s the matrix in my book. Flame on if you think
I’m a moronic fucktard, but I assure you, believing this
makes the matrix so much cooler than it is on the surface,
so I hope im right.
